Sobre mí

My name is Jack, which is fitting since I'm a jack of all trades, master on none. I have a PhD in Wikipedia to prove it.

I'm originally from upstate New York (NY is more than a city). Lived a few places in the US, mostly the Pacific islands and also Japan.

I chose not to renew my job contact in Japan this year. My stuff got sent back to the States and is in storage. I've saved for a long time and I don't have a job, family obligations, or even an apartment so I decided to hit the road for a few months. I want to see as much of the world as possible while I can.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

Travel is one of those things in life that keep me going. I desire to see the World. I have traveled with friends and stayed in hotels and I would say the experience of was fun but it left out a crucial element, meeting locals and travelers. A friend and I decided to stay in a hostel during a weekend trip and my way of traveling changed forever. I love the social aspect of them. Meeting people from all over the world and traveling cheap too. Now I want to take the next step and travel and meet locals and see how they live and show me their city from their eyes. In the same aspect I also want to show people the best parts of where I live. Things that sometimes the guidebooks leave out or overlook. I look forward to traveling and meeting new and unforgettable people.

Música, películas y libros

Music? Just about anything except country.

Movies? I guess I'll list my movies that I can watch over and over and not get sick of: Pulp Fiction, The Beach, Grand Budapest Hotel, The Big Lebowski, American Beauty, Snatch, The Boys and Girls Guide to Getting Down, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Books: Mostly non-fiction... A few good ones I've recently read: Tokyo Vice, The Gringo, Tokyo Underworld, The Rum DIary (basically anything H.S.T.), How to Travel the World on $50 a Day.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Drove Across the USA. North to South East to West. From Atlantic ocean to the Pacific ocean. From the Canadian border to the Mexican border.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I'm willing to possibly host and do my best give people a positive experience of Japan and my view of it. Obviously I'm not Japanese so my view of Japan will be from the Gaijin (foreigner) standpoint.

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

To be honest I'm not too handy. I would be grateful and take you out to dinner and drinks on my dime.
