About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To try to travel a bit more after far too long spent in just the UK
ABOUT ME
I'm Jack, I'm a 22 year old Londoner studying a university degree in Politics and Economics in central Scotland. When I was 19, I hitchhiked a 9000 mile lap around Australia and have suffered from wanderlust ever since.
I'm interested in history and architecture, my favourite period to study being the 19th century and industrial revolution.
I have a lifetime of British cultural knowledge to share and at one point was familiar with almost every town on the Australian mainland, quite a feat if I do say so myself.
PHILOSOPHY
No regrets. If you wanted to do it at the time, have courage in your convictions.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've been really inactive since I came back to the Northern Hemisphere, but I keep in touch with some of the local couchsurfing community around my university. It's pretty inactive though.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've Couchsurfed a full lap of Australia and want to repay some of that karma when I'm back staying away from my parents.
Interests
Politics, Economics, History, exploring new places and learning about new cultures while having a great time :-D I like to stay chilled out and easy going, though I rarely achieve complete success.

Music, Movies, and Books
When I read a book I like to write about myself in the front then give it way. I left a trail around Australia's opp shops, you'll have to ask for more detail, but they're mostly non-fiction or historical/ philosophical works.
Movie wise, I find 20th century minority empowering films really enjoyable. Made In Dagenham and Pride are two of my favourites. I have broad tastes though and have rarely found a film I disliked.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Standing alone in the middle of the outback and knowing that you could walk 15 meters and drop down dead and your body would never be found. I haven't worked out the philosophical significance yet but I found it amazing when I realised that it was likely the case.
I wrote the above 3 years before I edited this and it's as true today as I was when I wrote it. The time I spent in Australia is something I still haven't fully wrapped my head around though that place in the middle of the desert remains my go to happy place. I know that's somewhat perverse but it is the way it is.
Teach, Learn, Share
I've lived in London most of my life, I know a lot about British History, especially London and Edinburgh (both cities I adore) I can talk about them until the cows come home. I'm also quite practical, I'm adept with most tools and simple DIY and can also bake a great cake (or an OK cake while I get to know the oven).
I enjoy playing the tour guide when people come to stay with me and I'm always happy to experience someone else doing the same.
I also managed to wrap my head around the sentence "Buffalo buffalo, Buffalo buffalo buffalo, buffalo Buffalo buffalo" the other day, and I'm enormously proud of this.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can talk and I can listen, I can also fix bicycles and spent an unreasonable amount of time building vastly expensive custom vintage bikes for myself. I currently have 7 bikes.
