About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Enjoy life.

ABOUT ME

I'm 59. Politically and personally liberal. Try to be a good listener. Respectful of other's views. Healthy and fit. Even temperment. Patient. Appreciate my life.
I try to keep in mind that almost everything is funny in some way.

PHILOSOPHY

Enjoy myself and live life without stepping on others.
The Golden Rule. Keep my word. Most valuable activities are caring for the very young and very old. Best things are basics (nature, food, pleasure, movement, sleep, rest and work).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Try to be respectful and present at all times.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted six or eight people at my home now. All of them very fun, interesting folks. I took my mom to Italy a few years ago and we did SERVAS (similar to couch surfing). Great time. I have also hitchhiked maybe 50,000 miles and have recieved hospitality many times through that.

Interests

Banjo, guitar, harmonica, bicycling, building, hot springs, books, travel, mountaineering, backpacking, rock climbing, back country snowboarding. Very interested in other people's thinking. Collect pocket knives (to give away) and license plates.

Music, Movies, and Books

Greatest movie ever made: "Forrest Gump". Also like "Life is Beautiful" and "My Life as a Dog". Any story about a noble fool is appealing to me (Gomer Pile, Ernest, Barny Fife, Gilligan). Read "Cutting For Stone", "For Those Who Save Us" this year. Excellent books. "Life of Pi" super interesting also. Guns, Germs and Steel.
Favorite music: To play: Bluegrass and Oldtime. Folk. To listen to: Classic Rock. Blues. (should play more blues).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Burning Man with my kids (ages 21 and 24).
Snowboarding off of Mt. Hood with my son.
Being on top of Mt. Rainier and Cotapoxi (and many other mountains).
Preparing my father for cremation with my brothers (my brothers were helping me, not being cremated along with my father).
Every birth and death that I have been witness to.
Caught largest Cutthroat Trout of my life this summer in Wind River Range.

Teach, Learn, Share

Can teach banjo. Climbing. English. Construction (electrical, plumbing, framing). Stone masonary. Cribbage. Vasectomies (anybody can do it!).
I want to learn Spanish. How to surf (on waves). Slide blues banjo.

For my visitors, I like to take them floating down the Yakima River, go rock climbing, go fishing, play music with them, eat, talk and drink beer or whiskey until we pass out (just kidding/always in moderation).

I have a special place in the Cascades where we can rappel in clear air space for over 100 feet over an overhang next to (or within) a small waterfall.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Between September and June I am working long hours all week. It is difficult for me to devote the kind of attention that I think a Surfer deserves to get. I am free some of the weekends throughout the year and also for about a month in Dec/Jan.
The summers are much better because I am not working! I encourage anybody to send me a request because frequently anything can be worked out. It will never hurt to try during my busy time.

Countries I’ve Visited
