About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To travel the world and learn languages; to leave each place I visit better than I found it
ABOUT ME
A Scottish-American guy from a small fishing village in South Jersey. I love to travel. I am super personable, like meeting new people, and especially like trying to see if I can have a REALLY basic conversation with someone in their language within a few days. It's sort of a game. But I AM laid back and independent as well. I can explore a city or a country by myself with no problems. I like to try to know a bit about a place before I visit. Nothing makes me kick myself harder than coming home from a fascinating place and realizing that I missed some of the most important sites.
PHILOSOPHY
Be kind to everyone you meet. Make sure that whenever you meet someone, both your life AND the other person's life are enriched as a result.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've hosted some people. I usually end up in hostels when I travel, but I want to start staying with locals. I think you get to know more about an area that way.
Interests
I really like languages, cultures, and history. I also like going out, having drinks, concerts, dancing, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books
National Geographic, language books, and right now text books.
EXTREMELY eclectic music taste. 80s, 90s, R&B, hip hop, classical, jazz, rock, pop, country, world, . . . um . . . really I cannot think of anything I don't enjoy.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Seeing Yosemite National Park and the Sequoias that are big around enough for a car to fit through them will blow your mind. Standing on the top of Gibraltar hearing Spanish and British English while an ape sits on your shoulders as you gaze across at Morocco is surreal.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am a natural teacher. I've taught Spanish, Latin, and English as a second language for about 10 years. One thing I'm really bad at is sciences. It sucks when I go places with awesome natural wonders and really miss out on some important stuff.
Countries I’ve Visited
Canada, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Germany, Gibraltar, Guatemala, Iceland, Iraq, Morocco, Peru, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom
Countries I’ve Lived In
Argentina, Scotland, South Africa, United States
