About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To travel with my girlfriend Ruby for 3 weeks through the head-spinning beauty of Norway.
ABOUT ME
Hello there! My name is Jack, and I'm a high school English teacher based in North London. I grew up in New Zealand and Tasmania, but one day when I was cycling around the south of Britain I met a lovely English girl called Ruby, so now London is my home. Ruby is an osteopath, and we're both into the simple pleasures of life: hiking, camping, good books and conversation. We're spending 3 weeks in Norway this summer holiday - our first time there, so we're enormously excited! We both love cooking, so would be more than happy to cook our hosts a delicious meal. On that note, we're both vegan, but we're happy to be around meat; we're new vegans, ha ha :) Our mutual hero is Roald Dahl, who also used to spend his summer holidays in Norway! We'll be settled in our new place in London in September, so we'll be more than happy to host you in return. If you can't host us but you have some good tips on hiking and camping spots, we'd also love to hear from you. Thanks for reading mates! :D
PHILOSOPHY
"A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men" - Roald Dahl
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I loved hosting when I lived in Kanonji, a small town in Shikoku, Japan. I was there for two years and it was great showing a wide range of folks around my kooky little town. I had some great surfing experiences in Hokkaido, too. I'm now just trying to be the best guest I can be!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Some of the best experiences of my life are thanks to couchsurfing. One that stands out for me is staying with a family in Minami-Aso, down in Kyuushu. Eating homemade okonomiyaki, heading out to the local onsen, and chasing fireflies by the rice paddies...it was like something out of a Studio Ghibli film.
Interests
Science fiction, hiking, cycling, chess (I love pretending to be wise and patient while looking at the board), meditation and, um, Literature! History! Science! Music! It's all so interesting, and I know so little. Please teach me, O Wise and Kind Ones.

Music, Movies, and Books
OK, just the top three:
Books: 'Riddley Walker', 'Dune', 'Infinite Jest'.
Movies: 'You Were Never Really Here', 'Looper', 'The Silence of the Lambs'.
Music: Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Radiohead, Miles Davis.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I saw a meteor once while I was lying on a deserted beach in Abel Tasman National Park, NZ. It was a huge ball of fire, streaking across the sky for just a second. It was awesome and terrifying.
Teach, Learn, Share
Ruby and I both love to cook (and wash dishes for that matter!) I can either teach you chess in a few minutes, or give you the pleasure of beating me in a game. If you're interested in trying meditation, we both do it regularly.
Countries I’ve Lived In
Australia, England, France, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Spain
