Overview
About Me
My current mission is to meet new people and learn new things.
I enjoy continually drinking tea, discussing pretty much anything, making music and going to the pub.
In a nutshell I think that humans have vast creative capacities we haven't yet conceived of but that by pooling our thoughts we can unlock them.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have hosted people when I lived in Bristol, England. I am hoping to do more surfing myself and some more hosting in the future.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I hosted and couchsurfed a bit through friends accounts. My experiences hosting people have included tours of Bristol, in depth discussions of climate science and direct democracy as well as playing music and cooking food together.
Interests
Guitars, fiddles, banjos, books about bicycles, climate science, exploring different political philosophies e.g. liberal democracy, capitalism, communism, anarchism, cycling, mathematics and physics particularly quantum mechanics.

Music, Movies, and Books
3 books I like/recommend:
The Democracy Project by Dave Graeber. If you're interesting in couchsurfing then you'll probably find this book interesting. It's about Occupy Wall Street and puts it context brilliatly.
The Oxytocin Factor by Kerstin Uvnas Moberg. One of the best written peices of popular science I've read. It's about how the hormone oxytocin promotes growth, and also why we should try to utilise it.
Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut. An extraordinary and very readable book about how messed up war is.
3 songs I like/recommend:
Your hand in mine by Explosions In the Sky. This is an outstandingly beautiful instrumental rock song with movements almost like a piece of classical music.
A King for A King by Will Varley. A folk song about a whole life and what you could do with yours.
Paradise Circus by Massive Attack. An immense soundscape threaded with a haunting melody and vocal perfromance.
3 movies I like/recommend:
Spirited Away. Gorgeous anime about growing up via a trip to the spirit realm.
From the Heart of the World. It's about a people called the Kogi who have existed cotinuously since before the conquest of America by Europeans. They have a fascinating cosmology which keeps them in harmony with their environment. But because they believe natural systems to be interconnected they break their solitude to warn the rest of humanity to stop rapaciously consuming everything.
Winters Bone. A dark drama set in a north american winter. A young woman's father has gone missing; as she searches for him the film explores just how dark and violent a patriarchical sub-culture can be.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I saw the northern lights by chance on the north coast of Ireland. They are not normally visable here; their presence was due to a freak solar flare.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach physics, mathematics and philosophy as well as ashtanga yoga and guitar. I can explain in detail how to homebrew high quality beer and also how to be a sustainable, bee-friedly beekeeper. I'm interested in learning anthropology, complex systems theory, organic chemisty, Spanish, music theory, jazz guitar, fiddle/violin and any martial arts.
