Overview
About Me
I am Jacob.
I am a special needs teacher living in Skipton in the Yorkshire dales in (not very sunny) England! I play the saxophone (soprano) and love walking. I have been teaching for 4 years though this is my first year in special needs - I really enjoy it. I have lived in the countryside or close to it most of my life so am comfortable with long walks and the fresh air.
My sister, Amie, will also be joining me on this trip. I will add her interests and favourite stuff soon. Please take a look at the pictures in my profile to see her.
By the way, I am NOT paying £51 to be 'verified' (it doesn't even 'verify' you, it's just a way to get more money from you). If you want me to verify myself, I will happily do it by sending you a photo of me over Facebook or email with today's paper and my passport.
I have a completely clear and up-to-date Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which I’m happy to share with hosts upon request. A DBS check is the UK’s version of a background check, confirming whether someone has a criminal record or any relevant history. This means I have no criminal record or history of any kind.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am couch surfing as I am travelling across western and northern Europe over the summer holidays. I have decided to use couch surfing as I would like to meet more people on my travels; I like the idea of sharing stories, swapping tips or even just chilling over a cup of hot chocolate (or something stronger!) It’s those little connections that make travel unforgettable. Plus, I’m happy to help out however I can—whether it’s cooking (or getting take out/take away), chatting or just being a respectful guest who leaves things as I found them.

Music, Movies, and Books
Film:
My favourite film is Muriel's Wedding - It is about a lonely woman who desperately wants to get married but tries to get married in the wrong way. It is a bit of a RomCom and it's quite cliché but I like it nonetheless.
Book:
My favourite book is by Garry Kilworth and is called Hunter's Moon - It is a story of foxes and woodland creatures that have to face the encroachment of humans on their land. They are anthropomorphised but they still have the natural tendencies of woodland creatures, just they have their own language and culture.
Music:
My music taste is vast and can range from classical to rap to dancehall to metal. There are virtually no restrictions on my music taste. I do have my favourites (rap/r&b/neosoul) but this does not stop me enjoying other music. My favourite artists are: Erykah Badu, Sia, Ludacris, Barenaked Ladies, Smash Mouth and Mika among others.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One series of amazing (in my eyes) things I have done is host and create some murder mystery party afternoons for myself and a bunch of my mates. I usually cook a 3-6 course afternoon meal for them to enjoy whilst we figure out the murder between the meals. The parties usually have a theme that we all stick to. Last year I hosted a Titanic theme where everyone wore clothes inspired by the fashion at the time and the courses were also named after or inspired by the titanic. The year before I hosted a WWII theme! This time around, I am hosting a Hawaiian/beach holiday theme.
I know this isn't a valiant or extremely selfless 'amazing thing' but it is amazing that we all have a brilliant time each time my friend group meets up.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am not sure what I am meant to put here honestly!
What I Can Share with Hosts
Hopefully I can share some experiences with the hosts I spend time with. Though I may not have had many exotic experiences like some on here, I am a friendly person who is respectful. Maybe I could share some stories about my work or friends or even how to host a murder mystery party!
