Overview
About Me
**I am in Mainland China, Zhuhai, not in Macau. 我的房子在广东珠海,不在澳门。
我的中文名叫欧阳乐士(yueshi)。
After graduating with a BA in Applied Linguistics, I moved to China to learn Chinese. I've been here for a while now and am now working on an MA, so I am quite busy and may not always be available to host. I enjoy experiencing other cultures, historical places, food, and naturally incredible views. I'm the studious type; learning is, after all, the main reason I'm living in China.
I'm a foodie. The best way to experience a new culture is through their food and food culture. This unfortunately does not mean I'm a good cook, but I can very efficiently imbibe a falafel. The best craft beer in China is brewed right here in "little" Zhuhai; if you're interested, I can show you where.
I have about an hour commute to work each way. If you stay with me during the week, you'll have to be ok with getting up early and leaving when I do (potentially walking out the door as early as 6am). I know that sucks, but I think it's best that way if we don't know each other so well. That also means I usually try not to stay up too late... So maybe staying on a weekend would be preferable
因为我要坐一个多小时去我的单位,所以如果你在我没有放假的时间跟我一起住,也许要早起来跟我一起出门。我是个老师,所以我周末、暑假、寒假都有假期。
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
It seems like a good way to travel cheap and experience a destination at a more local level.
I made this account for a trip to Vienna, Austria in the beginning of 2018, and it was a great time, definitely made better by the couchsurfers I stayed with the others I partied with

Music, Movies, and Books
Red hot chili peppers is probably one of the best bands ever. Lately I've also gotten more into Chinese hip-hop. I read mostly non-fiction, and mostly Chinese-learning books these days...
I consider myself rather malnourished when it comes to reading great works, but I am trying . I like to learn through conversation with others, so if you're into philosophy, religion, or really any area of science, I'd probably enjoys hearing your thoughts on important or trivial matters over a drink.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Learned to count past one.
Darjeeling and Sikkim, northeast India. Hiked into a remote village, had salted chai cooked over an earthen stove. "Couchsurfed" or stayed the night in a villager's home.
Fasching in Munich. The parade in Olching.
Teach, Learn, Share
If you don't have references, get them. If you're fairly new to this, just find a friend who is also on couchsurfing and ask them to trade personal references with you. That's how I did it, it helps hosts to see that you're not a creeper. It's also a plus if you are verified, just saying.
I'm a teacher by trade. I could teach you English or Chinese, though you can't hope to learn much in a few short days.
I'm a pipe dream musician, meaning I love playing music, but pretty much suck at everything. As a middle-schooler, I quit playing the trumpet because I didn't think it was my style. I picked up bass guitar, played that in a metal band in high school and then in jazz band for bit in college, also picked up some drums and acoustic guitar along the way. I'd play drums some for church services, but acoustic guitar was basically just my personal instrument. I studied Indian tablas for a year or so and have carried a pairs of these little (but heavy :p) drums from Asia to America and back again. I'm currently learning Guqin, a classical Chinese instrument; perhaps I could share some of that with you. It has it's own tablature system which is unique to it and not used by any other musical instrument.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm pretty chill, don't always talk a lot, so I guess that makes me a good listener :p.
A drink.
