About Me

I'm a former office worker and public speaker, who saw the fun, people-orientated parts of his job disappear due to Government cutbacks, so I quit my job and started volunteering in Hostels across Europe. I love to work with people, talking to them, and learning about their lives, journeys and cultures. It's the reason I love doing what I do, and hope to do it for as long as I can. I'm friendly, respectful & polite (like any young Englishman is raised to be!), and always great fun to be around. At 22, I have a lot of places to visit still, and always prefer to do it while working and becoming a part of the city/town/village I'm in.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When I'm heading from one volunteer job to another I may need to stop over in various places along the way; either to see the sights of somewhere I'm passing through and have always wanted to visit, to see friends living or working nearby, or just to rest part way through a long journey. However volunteer work however doesn't pay too well so Couchsurfing is perfect for me, plus I love meeting new people!

Interests

I'm an amateur writer of sorts, more for enjoyment that anything else. I tend to start projects enthusiastically, then quickly get distracted by my next bright idea and move onto that. I love a hard days work (though not too hard!), mainly because the drink afterwards is always much better because you've earned it! I also love music and cinema and have tried my hand at critiquing from time to time. Though I've never had any natural athletic talent, there's not a sport I don't enjoy, and I'll try my hand at anything. My real love though is people, talking to them, making them laugh and learning about who they are and where they've been in life.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I was raised on Irish & English Folk, mixed with punk, rock & roll, and Bruce Springsteen. In my young life I developed a love of the classic band, and most of my friends back home are in the local music industry. Over the years I've begun to enjoy more or less all kinds of music, from Hip-Hop to Reggae and Classical.
Books: Anything by Nick Hornby & F. Scott Fitzgerald, Roddy Doyle. Trying to slowly work my way through the classics as I travel...
Movies: Any films by Wes Anderson, Christopher Nolan, David Fincher, Stanley Kubrick and more (I love cinema!)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm about to attend my 5th Glastonbury Festival in a row next year and will have gone from insane heat, to monsoon rain. It is the greatest place on earth, for one week a year, heaven is in Somerset, England.
