About Me

Recent grad with a serious travel bug who was lucky to find a job that facilitates a large amount of travel!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love the culture & philosophy behind couchsurfing. Some of the most interesting people I have encountered were some of the surfers my friends hosted.

Unfortunately my roommates in NYC aren't big on the idea of couchsurfing, but someday I hope to give back to the community when I have a proper place!

Interests

I love getting away from the city and seeking adventures that I might second-guess during the moment but never regret later. Example: skipping tandem skydiving and going solo the first time.

I have a strong urban bias in my daily life at home. However when it comes to travelling I am more drawn to geological wonders & discovering cultural differences through conversation with locals than I am to historical sights and cityscapes.

I never turn down an opportunity to practice my Chinese

Music, Movies, and Books

A thousand years ago I played the violin, and I still like to reminisce by listening to all the concertos and orchestral pieces that I played back then. Outside the classical realm I consider myself rather ignorant, my phone is full of a smattering of french edm & indie... feel free to educate me on good music!

Reading-wise, I'm big into Science Fiction. Anything Orson Scott Card is a favorite - yes he has questionable politics, but his characters are damn witty.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once decided it'd be a great idea to take the 硬座 (literally means "hard seat") train from Beijing all the way out to 敦煌 on the edge of the Gobi Desert... Anyone who has ridden a 硬座火車 in China knows that these trains end up being standing room only and each leg can sometimes take upwards of 24 hours. Well on this train there were so many people that even the restroom had about 4 people standing around the squatter with no room to evacuate for ... users. I think my greatest accomplishment in life was holding it in for over 20 hours after I intelligently decided that I'd better eat a hearty meal before my 20 hour long ride to 西安. That was not a good idea.
