About Me

I'm "just" a nice, curious, easy-going guy who loves travelling, discovering new places and meeting new people of different cultures.
I live by the belief that exist no boundaries between humans but in maps, and that everyone of us is a citizen of the world.

Although I enjoy my own company without problems, being the sensitive and introverted kind I am, I do love meeting other people (especially foreigners) and getting to know more about them, their culture and their countries. I am deeply fascinated by all the things that people have in common even as they live in completely different places.
I also have a very open mind which I apply to religion, sex, social rights and other stuff, despite my tendency to sometimes make very politically incorrect jokes (I love stereotypes). I never enjoy offending people though, and when I do, with my words or behaviour, it is unintentional, so, please, tell me, so that I can make amend.

I don't smoke. I don't take drugs. I drink little wine or beer.
I love cocktails.
And, when offered, I don't mind having a joint once in a while.

I like swimming (did it regularly for 10 years), but, nonetheless, sports were never my biggest interest, even though I enjoy a friendly soccer game from time to time (I'm not even near to a decent player, but I'm not bad in defense). Let's say I am more fond of activities that challenge my mind, instead of my body (which I train all the same: "mens sana in corpore sano").

I have my own personal ideas about politics, society, philosophy, which I really love to confront with others'. Cue for an interesting conversation, right? (or a surprisingly boring one: depends on who you ask...)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because it offers a unique combination of cheap expenses and close contact with the hosts. It is a great way to travel low-cost while also getting to know a lot of people quickly and safely. What's not to love of it...?

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Classical(-ish) music and compositions. Instrumental. Commercial. Pop. Rock. A bit of everything, really.

Books: The Lord of the Rings (J. R. R. Tolkien), A Song of Ice and Fire (G. R. R. Martin), Animal Farm (G. Orwell)

Movies: See above... (Nah! Just kidding! How can I choose one...? But seriously, go watch The Lord of the Rings)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well... there was that time when I climbed up a tree (6 meters or so) to retrieve a soccer ball. Not very special though (but quite dangerous for a child of 13, you have to admit).

Oh, right! I also flew for 2 seconds! Literally.
I was biking with friends in Amsterdam after a party, moderately drunk. We go full speed on the street and while crossing to the other side I accidentally hit the ramp to the tram tracks on its steepest point. Because, ya' know, they have these damn trams in the middle of the road, these crazy Dutch, and their tracks are on a sort of pedestal protruding from the ground.
I hit it and I went flying.
As soon as the tires left the ground I knew I was going to die (or nearly so). I'm not an acrobat, and at that speed, directed toward parked cars and trees... Time slowed down. In those 2 seconds I could see my life pass before my eyes, my childhood, my friends, my loved ones. In those 2 seconds my heart stopped beating as I silently prayed for mercy to whoever god was listening.
Numb mind, stiff limbs, I was falling (or landing), and when I hit the ground...
I survived!
I landed straight on the tires and managed to keep control of the bike despite the surface of the street was slippery from the rain. I didn't fall. Instead, I dodged cars and trees (don't know how...) and got safely to the other side, joining my friends.
It was the coolest experience I ever had (that I remember, at least)...! The coolest thing I ever did!
And no one saw it...

What I Can Share with Hosts

Interesting conversation about politics, culture, history, philosophy and contemporary stuff in general. I can offer my experience at cooking (being an Italian, as I am, should speak by itself...) and a hand in cleaning up the room/house if need be.
