关于我

************************************************************************
CS and all the similar websites are based on a concept, the "gift economy". To be part of the gift economy the underlying factor is that there must be people willing to "gift", may it be time, something they own, their place.
If you become part of a system based on gift and you're not able, or willing to return anything to it, you're not just a freeloader, but you're actively killing it.
Consider CS not only for your cheap vacations, but also for making the world a better place were people can trust and give freely to each other.

IMPORTANT:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NO WAITING SQUATTING IN FRONT OF THE BUILDING

DON'T TRY TO SNEAK INSIDE THE BUILDING IF I HAVE NOT OPENED YOU THE FRONT DOOR (so if I'm not home). It's not USA and people won't try to shot you, but they can call the Police.

DON'T STATION INSIDE THE BUILDING ON THE COMMON AREAS (there are other families and having unknown people inside is not a nice thing, you'll make things difficult for me)

TRY TO BE ON TIME AND TO HAVE A MOBILE IN WORKING ORDER (battery and credit) FOR EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS OR IN CASE THERE'S A NEED TO UPDATE PLANS. YOU MUST SEND ME YOUR NUMBER BEFORE YOU REACH MY APARTMENT, OTHERWISE IN CASE ANY KIND OF PROBLEM ARISES (mine or yours) YOU CAN STAY OUTSIDE AND FIND SOME OTHER PLACE WHERE YOU CAN SLEEP.

The part about me ;)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi there, I'm Jacopo, Venetian (and living in Mestre, Venice's mainland). I love comics, reading, bike and tech, I've got a master degree in economics, currently working. If you have any question or if you are curious about anything you're welcome to ask.

From Monday to Friday I'm working won't be home during the day, but I will be on the weekend.

:) Cheers to everyone

BRIEF INFOS AND (MY) RULES FOR GUESTS
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notice that:
1) I live in MESTRE (use google maps).
2) I am not a BnB

Rules:
- From Monday to Friday I work and I don't take guests (so eventually I can accept you the earliest on Friday 19:00 CET time).
- I can host you for 2-3 days unless your aim is to marry me. More than that without being husband and wife is called "rent".
- I prefer requests to be on short notice, not 1-2-3 months ahead.
- I am not a nudist. If you are a man-nudist, keep your clothes on, it won't kill you, if you're a woman-nudist, please, feel yourself at home.
- I prefer not taking in couples, especially if they plan to copulate at my place. Ya, it's all envy... (they're quite boring, they stay among themselves and most of the time one of them do the talking and the other one doesn't even know how to speak english so it gets quite awkward).

- I can derogate all my rules ( I roam among the public trips around here, so sometime I invite couples or I invite people that I think are interesting to stay in other days of the week, or more than a couple of nights without a wedding involving me and them. If you have feedbacks as host it helps making this kind of decisions).

VENICE IS BORING!! WHERE CAN I HAVE FUN?!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes. You've discovered our great secret, Venice is an extremely boring place, nothing to do for young people, few locals, few jobs, few things to do in the evening/night. You came in Venice thinking of having a fun place for young people and to stay low on your budget? Gosh, were you drunk?
Anyway, you're here now, so you can try to enjoy what the city can offer...

on the mainland:
1) "Centro sociale Rivolta" (music, an old factory in Marghera converted in a place for music and a few drinks)
2) "Forte Marghera" (an ex military fort where they do events in the weekend, with a sort of restaurant and often live music, especially during summer).
3) In Mogliano "Helmut" a good place for hamburgers and beer.
4) In Zelarino/Mestre "Stinger" for club-sandwiches (a local specialty).
5) "Da Pino", a good pizzeria in the center of Mestre and of Mogliano
6) "Ae Oche", a local chain restaurant that is present in several locations both in Venice or on the mainland.

on the Islands:

1) Venice Jazz Club, near Campo Santa Margherita, towards Ponte dei Pugni (Bridge of punches), you should book your presence, live jazz music.
To book:
(+39) 3401504985 (mobile, 11am to 1pm - 3pm to 7pm)
(+39) 0415232056 (from 7pm)
they serve food before the show, from 7:30pm to 8.30pm.
2) Sale docks, every now and then they make events
3) several cicchetterie (places where they sell cicchetti (fingerfood) and ombre (wine)), there are several, all around the city like Ca' D'Oro alla Vedova (closed on Thursday near strada nuova), Parlamento (near 3 archi bridge)
Mainly in 3 areas:
a) Campo Santa Margherita (Orange, Chet, Duchamp, they're more bars than cicchetterie... but nevermind)
b) fondamenta degli Ormesini (Timon, Paradiso and others)
c) and near Rialto market in an area called Erbaria (Bancogiro)

WHERE CAN I EAT LIKE A LOCAL?! (in Venice)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The offer is mainly for tourists, because on a standard Wednesday there are 2 tourists for each inhabitants. Do you want to eat like a local? Get a BnB with a kitchen, cook something for yourself and complain all the time that there are too many tourists around, this way you'll truly embrace the spirit of Venice and its inhabitants.
Jokes aside, there are several good places where, of course, you'll find plenty of tourists.

Not Very Expensive

Bifora (Santa Margherita)
Estro Vino e Cucina (near Campo Santa Margherita)
Orient Experience (middle eastern cousine, in Campo Santa Margherita)
GISLON Venetian style "fast food", it is a rosticceria, oily and fried mainly, you can get the best "mozzarella in carrozza" in town, it closes around 20:30 - 21:00
Ae Do Spade (near Rialto)
L'osteria di Santa Marina (near Rialto)
Devil's Forest Pub (near Rialto)
Osteria Vineria Gastronomica Sepa (near Rialto)
Osteria Ruga (near Rialto)
Birraria la Corte (near Rialto)
Al Timon (Misericordia)
Al Mariner (Misericordia)
Marciano Pub (Misericordia)
Vini da Gigio (near Strada Nova)
La Colombina (near Strada Nova)
Ca' D'oro alla Vedova (near Strada Nova)
H2NO (near Strada Nova)
Fraris (middle eastern cousine, near Frari Church)
Koenji (fusion Venetian-Japanese, near Frari)
La Bottiglia (near Frari)
Adagio (near Frari)
Muro (near Frari)
Muro (near San Stae)
Osteria da Filo (near San Giacomo)
GAM GAM (Jewish cousine, in Ghetto)
Bacaro Risorto (near San Marco)
Al Covino (a very nice very locally sourced restaurant near Arsenale)
Al Covo (near Arsenale)
Nevodi (near Arsenale)
Ai Strani (near Arsenale)

Very expensive (Michelin star level)

Zanze XVI (near the Train Station)
Glam Enrico Bartolini (San Stae)
Quadri (Piazza San Marco)
Venissa in Mazzorbo, near Burano (you'll need to get a Vaporetto towards Burano or a water taxi to reach the area)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHERE CAN I EAT LIKE A LOCAL?! (in Mestre)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vite rossa, best place for cicchetti in Mestre
All'ombra del gabbiano (celiacs)
PepeNero (good restaurant with good selection of wines)
Vgoloso (vegan)
Da Pino, Fratelli la Bufala, Rossopomodoro, Grigoris (Pizzerie)
Stinger (club sandwich)
InTramezzo (good tramezzini -cold sandwiches- sort of close to the train station, closes around 21:30)
Ristorante Griglieria Baco da seta
McOnor, Distri (distributore), Old George (Pubs)
Helmut, Amburgheria (Hamburgher-Pub)
Brunch Republic (Brunch)
Manna (Korean, very good, but you'll probably need a car)
A ton of Chinese restaurants, they are very alike, there are the Japan-Chinese buffet ones and the more traditionally Chinese
Angus Churrascaria (brasilian food, near Mogliano, you'll definitely need a car)
Al Messicano (Mexican food, near Mogliano you'll definitely need a car)

VENETIANS DON'T HOST PEOPLE!! :'( WHY?!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Venice (the insular area) has a little more than 40.ooo (on the islands, 200.ooo with the mainland) inhabitants, mostly elders and millions tourists passing through (25.ooo.ooo+ per year).
There is not much offer of couches taking in consideration the population and the number of people looking for.
If you are looking for a free couch near Saint Mark square, I sincerely wish you good luck, you'll need it.
And if you don't have references as a host, why do you complain people aren't hosting you? Try hosting, instead of living couchsurfing as a freeloader.

That said:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Emergency accommodations.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
if you don't find a host, don't despair!
My suggestions:

Pensione Trento +39 041 926090, near Venezia Mestre train station, not luxurious, the area it is in is not wonderful, but cheap and near to both train and bus connections to Venice.

Giudecca, zitelle hostel +39 041 877 8288, it's a youth hostel, but also a nice place, on the Venetian island of Giudecca (that you can reach by Vaporetto (waterbus) from Venice main body (Zattere waterbus stop), you can ask for the ticket just for the ride from one shore to the other that should be less expensive than the ordinary ticket for waterbus, or attempt a free ride.

Albergo Santa Lucia +39 041 715180, a cheap hotel, near Venezia Train Station. It's a hotel, so rooms for one person start from 40 € per night.

AO hotel / hostel, check their website , there are private room and shared room, some options are quite cheap, it's in Mestre, quite close to a bus stop from which you will get to Venice in 20 minutes and train station.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE END
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not writing all this to scare you, or to tell you that you should book in a hotel instead of looking for a couch in Venice, but I think that knowing the situation of the network here and of my availability can be useful for you.
And, FFS, take a second to fill your profile! This should be a community, if there's no information about you, where you come from, your language, your pictures, you have no previous experience (I understand not everybody can host, but there are CS events pretty much everywhere) and you write you have found CS that is cool because you won't need to pay while staying in some expensive city, I'm afraid you should not be here, but looking for a bridge to sleep under, don't waste the time of the members of a community if you are not willing to become a part of it.

HOW I VIEW COUCHSURFING
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Couchsurfing is not AirBnB.

No money asked but it's not a sleeping service, and saving money should not be the only aim in a couchsurfer, When I've been hosted, I made sure to bring pasta and/or coffee (even if I don't like coffee), I tried to learn beforehand a bit of the place I was traveling to and shared some time with my host.

In return for hosting me I will be glad to host you back, I've a flat with 3 spare beds more or less (depending if they are rented), so you won't share my bed.
I checked shared bed on "my home" to avoid requests by people with high expectations. Apart this, I can teach you Italian words, share interesting conversations and I hope I'll manage to bring a little gift for my hosts.
