About Me

Hi there,
I currently work in the National Film and Sound Archives of Australia. I'm a mom, and my child has grown up and lives independently. I'm an aunt and a sister, and most of my family play a musical instrument at some level. I love simple and grass roots things like camping, festivals, picnics, swimming, making things, recycling
Sydney is a wonderful place to live and my place is in the trendy inner west, near Newtown. Trains and buses 5 - 10 mins walk, city centre just 15 mins away by public transport. Happy to show you around if I have time, and can certainly help you with finding your way in Sydney if you want.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like to meet other travelers and meet new friends around the world. We're all family!

Music, Movies, and Books

I play alto saxophone as a hobby and love playing, listening and dancing to all sorts of world music, Afro Cuban, jazz, and more... recently I've been learing darbuka and this have taken me into a world of beautiful belly dancing.
I like to read long saga type tales, and often read things set in the country I'm traveling in. In Cambodia I read 'First They Killed My Father' - a true story/biography, and essential to gain some background to that country.
In Japan I read 'My Life As A Geisha'
One book I really enjoyed even though I read it a long time ago, was 'Accordion Crimes' by Annie Proulx.
Films? Oh, where to start? How about a recent Australian movie: 'Lion' a true story, a book first then a film. Really, I love quirky films and films that take me into other cultures and lifestyles.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Oooh, that's hard to pin down, so many moments of amazing experiences... but ok - so I visited Cuba with twelve Australian musicians as part of a cultural exchange. We traveled through the island on a mini bus and were hosted by local bands in each of the towns and cities along our route. We met wonderful warm people and performed with some brilliant musicians. We drank rum, sang songs in the street with people we'd never met, danced, ate and saw some beautiful nature spots too!
