Overview
About Me
Brave, spontaneous, and adventurous: that’s how I would describe myself. In the spring of 2014 I finished my undergrad in psychology and, was working on a gerontology study and applying to graduate school. Then I had the epiphany that kind of life wasn't for me. I realized that I didn't/don't want to pursue a career, settle down, get married and have children and, live a stable life. I want a life that is ever-changing with a new adventure around every corner, a life on the move! Before I left home I read a book about Vagabonding and it really inspired me. Living a life traveling on the road sounded so attractive and exciting. I had this gut feeling that although I had never travelled before, the life of a nomad is what would make my soul happy. So I started slaving away, working two full time jobs saving every penny I earned. I gave away all my possessions, got my name out of all my contracts, and eliminated anything holding me home. I had never felt so free! I booked a one-way flight to Bangkok with nothing but a 40 litre backpack and not even a clue where I would stay the first night. My greatest joy in life is learning. What better way to learn then to jump in with both feet into a world and experience completely foreign to me? Here I am, on a mission of self-growth, acquiring new skills, and trying to make the world a better place, one positive action at a time.
I love to volunteer, especially when it gives me an opportunity to interact with nature. Any day spent outdoors is a good day. It’s so liberating to finally be done spending my days in a library on a computer. Because I enjoy nature so much, I care about it! Protecting the environment and the animals that inhabit it is so important to me. The planet needs our help now more than ever! In Thailand I spent a week volunteering with Elephant Nature Park and it was one of the best experiences I've had in life. I also spent two months volunteering at a permaculture, meditation, and yoga project in Thailand. There I learned natural building and how to live holistically and sustainably. Most recently I’ve spent three months volunteering with Marine Conservation Philippines. In my time there I helped demarcate marine protected areas, surveyed reefs, helped the local community, and conducted many beach and dive clean-ups. I also became a PADI professional and am a certified dive master.
A little more about me. I really love to push myself and try things that scare me. I had never drove a moped before but, I bought one in Ho Chi Minh and spent six weeks riding around Vietnam totally solo. For me, life is about conquering my fears and having new experiences. I prefer a vegetarian diet but will literally eat and try anything. I am low maintenance and easy-going I’ve never been accused of being a princess. I pride myself in being honest, genuine, generous, a beach babe and proper hiker.
