About Me

I am starting to settle down with my wife here in Port Alberni, Vancouver Island, Canada. I just got a house in June 2024 and look forward to welcoming travelers again once I settle in a bit more.

I love being active outdoors! I surf, kitesurf, snowboard, mountain bike, climb, kayak, hike, camp, and pretty much everything else that is active in nature. but I'm also happy to spend a relaxing day inside now and then reading a book or playing video games. I read a lot of fantasy and some sci-fi but enjoy non-fiction as well.

I normally eat a vegetarian diet but will eat seafood every now and then. I really enjoy cooking with other people and trying to create new dishes!

I enjoy writing travel blogs, but have been journaling with pen and paper more recently. It's always nice to look years back and reflect on what I was doing and how I saw the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think living with locals is the best way to travel, and makes couch surfing such an awesome concept. I want to dive into the cultures from around the world, and share what I know from living in Canada and traveling abroad.

Music, Movies, and Books

Rock, alternative, trap, acoustic, country... pretty much anything! I've really enjoyed finding new artists and writers during my travels.

Book: life of pi

movie: the dark knight

band: foo fighters, rede hot chili peppers, muse, twenty one pilots, green day, alt-j, passenger, ben howard... the list goes on! I listen to pretty much everything except a lot of mainstream pop. No hate, it just isn't for me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the coolest things I've done was turtle conservation in Costa Rica. The village where we were at had about 500 residents, and the sense of peace and tranquility you got there was surreal. We worked from midnight until 4 am patrolling the beach, and did some work during the day as well. Beach cleaning, hatchery work, data collection, and so forth. The locals were incredibly kind and caring, and each month there was an "Arribada" event, where thousands of olive ridley turtles would swarm the shores of Ostional beach to lay their eggs. I spent 7 weeks, here, and could have spent 7 more the way time went by.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know some Dutch and a smidge of Spanish. I know a lot about GIS and making maps, as well as IT and computer sectors. Happy to share my knowledge with anyone who's interested!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a clean and tidy person and don't mind at all helping around the house. I know lots about GIS if you're into mapping, and could share my super basic guitar / ukelele skills. Or if anyone wants info on the countries I've visited, or Canada's background, I can give you some tips. I'm always happy to share a good recipe too
