About Me

Hello!
My name is Jadon and I live on Long Island in New York! For most of my life I had never had the opportunity to travel, but recently I had my first experience traveling and living abroad and now I can't get enough of it. While I have the chance I want to travel to as many places as possible and share stories and experiences with new people!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Though I haven't traveled much I've always had the sense that I want to see other places than where I live, and that just staying in one place would not be enough for me. This past year I had my first long distance travel experience when I studied abroad in Tokyo for one year, and now that vague feeling has transformed into an insatiable wanderlust. Since coming back I can't think of anything but going to new places and meeting and talking with new people there! I love talking with as many different people as I can and sharing experiences and ideas with them, so I figured that this would be the perfect place for that!

Music, Movies, and Books

There's way too many to list! I could break it up by genre but that would be too long, so I'll just try my best to list my absolute favorites in no particular order!

Music:
Queen
David Bowie
Leonard Cohen
New Order
Haruomi Hosono
Yellow Magic Orchestra
Taeko Ohnuki
Pizzicato Five
Joan Baez
João Gilberto
Françoise Hardy
Too many more to list!

Movies:
I'll put both individual movies and some of my favorite overall directors here too.
Hayao Miyazaki (Especially Kiki's Delivery Service, Castle in the Sky, The Wind Rises, and Princess Mononoke)
Yasujiro Ozu
Akira Kurosawa (Ikiru, in particular!)
Agnès Varda
Manbiki Kazoku (Shoplifters)
Okuribito (Departures)
In the Mood for Love
Ladri di biciclette
Pan's Labyrinth

Books:
The Magic Mountain
Kokoro
I could list more novels but what I really love are classics and collections of folktales and myths! Because of my study at university I have a particular interest in Japanese classics and poetry.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I don't know that I'd call it particularly "amazing" but the most fun, interesting thing I've done in my life is definitely deciding to live in Japan for a year! I guess the fact that I'd never been abroad or on a plane before, and my first experience with both of those was a year long might be "amazing" but to me it was just a wonderful, enlightening experience. Not only was it the most enjoyable year of my life but I feel like I've grown so much both in terms of my knowledge of the world and cultures, as well as personally!

Teach, Learn, Share

If you're interested in anything related to Japan or Japanese I can definitely talk about that! And also any type of music or film or anything like that. I like to think I have a broad range of interests so I hope that I can share my thoughts and have conversations with many different people who have very different interests. I would also love to hear about all of your interests whether it be related to music, language, movies, or anything really. I really just want to listen to what people have to say and what they're passionate about, no matter what the topic is!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'd be glad to tell you anything about my experiences in my home country or in Japan, or anything about the kinds of art I'm interested in. My biggest wish is to be able to provide interesting conversation to whoever I meet abroad so I really hope that I can meet a lot of different people to share in interesting conversation, whether the topics are serious or fun or whatever!
