About Me

The four directions of my life compass are music, travel, art, and nature.

I'm a California grown, dusty desert nymph 🔥)'(🔥 who believes in radical humanity, while always trying to be my authentic self and seeking a path of balance.

I'm much too curious. As far as I know, knowledge (which is hopefully transferring into wisdom 🤞) is the purpose for my existence, both gaining and giving it. I also really like to explore and see new things.

ENFJ - if that means anything to you.
I'm a pretty open book, so if you want to know more, just ask!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm not sure why it took me over a decade to make one of these, but better late than never?

I suppose my past travels haven't required my use of this site, but that's a bit of a bummer really. I figure the future may, and so I'm here! 🖐

Interests

I've been to more concerts than I can count, and quite a few music festivals. I've been to Burning Man seven times and am going to my second BOOM in 2021. I've played soccer since I was nine, absolutely love dogs and dancing, and think tattoos are an art form (although I only have one!). Everything else is either explained somewhere on this page, or is self explanatory.

Music, Movies, and Books

My music taste is extensive, but tends to hover around electronic and rock music, with varying subgenres of each. Music is a deep part of who I truly am. I love to dance, but I'm not trained. There is something about the freedom it provides, and the ability to move to sound...it opens my soul. I can talk artists and music for a while, so if it's something you're into... 😁

Since restarting my academic career in 2015, I haven't read for pleasure much, and it bums me out! Ever since I was a young girl I loved to read, and I credit my passion for reading as part of how I've excelled in school. I spend most of my time now reading for school, but I would love recommendations. The genres I have been most interested in as of late are nonfiction - personal wellbeing/spirituality, alternative sexuality, and travel. I'm accumulating Burning Man literature too, as it's my topic of study in my graduate program.

I'm not as into watching movies; I'd rather listen to an album personally, but the occasional movie from time to time is lovely. I do mostly enjoy movies that make me think - ones like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Enter the Void, Mr. Nobody, Donnie Darko, Darjeeling Limited...movies of this nature.
I would say Across The Universe is my favorite though, what a piece of art!

The only show I'm super into is Black Mirror for the same reason, but I can dig shows like Rick and Morty and Big Mouth. I recently discovered Love, Death, and Robots and am all about the shorts!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I feel like it's cliche to say "spending time with elephants in Thailand", but it truly was an amazing experience. It's no more cliche than saying "I go to Burning Man", but that too is a wonderful experience, and part of why I keep returning.

I've been fortunate to have seen a lot of amazing places and done a lot of really cool things. I understand I have been granted these experiences as gifts, and I truly thank the universe for the ultimate experience of all - life and the ability to learn.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a sociology graduate student, and I tend to see sociology everywhere I go. I credit traveling/living abroad and my first Burning Man as the catalysts for my realization that I am fascinated by people and culture.

I really love conversation. Healthly debating topics, discussions of spirituality and existence, but also sharing memories and experiences, listening to stories and looking at photos, and through all of these attempting to make meaningful connections to others. Through conversation I learn more about the world and others in it. 🙂

Up until very recently, the plan was to get a Ph.D and become a professor, and while the first part of that plan hasn't changed, the second part has...shifted some. I'm not against the idea of being a professor, but for the first time, I've let go of my expectation of attaining this specific career, and believe that as I get closer to completing my Ph.D, the direction for my future will become more clear. I'm interested in doing something more outside the box, but regardless what this 'career' ends up being, all I desire is through it I may help make the world a better place, even if my impact is small.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Conversation (or lack thereof if you'd prefer), music recommendations, tips for Burning Man, tips for places I've traveled, a partner for going out and sharing a meal, a beverage at a cafe or bar, or even exploring or dancing, but also a helping hand if there's a way I can contribute. I'm not much of a cook, but I can assist, and I can help clean! Also, while I am extremely social and outgoing, please don't feel obligated to entertain me.
