About Me

Using words to describe a person seems to set boundaries and limit them. However, I am a young man analyzing and trying to remain aware of my transition into maturity. I keep a notebook in my back pocket and hope to write a book someday. It's got a lot of trippy stuff in it but I let anyone read it. I'm very open-minded. I believe the more perspectives one can experience the better. It helps me understand humanity and my part in it.

I graduated with degrees in Civil Engineering from Santa Clara University in northern California. I couldn't adjust to the 12-hour work day so I moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming and adopted a dog named Django.

Mostly I say life is long so I plan on enjoying it cause I could be here a while.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I will be living in Israel for 5 months starting early February. I've arranged most details through a Masa program. Most likely I'll be living in Tel Aviv and learning teaching methods with high school age Israelites. I plan on arriving a week early, February 1st and the program starts February 9th. I worry the program will be too structured and perhaps even sheltering me from a true "living in Israel" experience. I would love to meet some locals couch surfing

Interests

I am an outdoor enthusiast raised in Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, and California. I rock climb well, hike nearly everyday, and snowboard. Hiking is a way of getting around here in Jackson Hole. I enjoy multi-day backpacking treks. I white water river raft often in the summer. I wouldn't say I'm not an ego hiker/backpacker. I'm more about the winding trail than the view from the top.

I was a big partier in college and after so I've got some stories to tell. But I don't drink like that anymore. I got myself into too much trouble and dangerous situations. I still enjoy partying. I just drink 10 glasses of water instead of 10 beers.

Music, Movies, and Books

Rock and roll. I listen to all of the Black Keys. I chill to artists like Local Natives and Radiohead. I watch comedies and action movies like any guy my age. I try to pick up a classic book whenever I'm at a loss to choose something more intense. Catcher in the Rye, Frankenstein, Animal Farm, Cannery Row, classics like that. Otherwise I seek out books with a lot of existentialism like Richard Bach's Jonathan Livingston Seagull and Illusions of a Reluctant Messiah. I dig poetry too. Can't write it but love a good non-rhyming poem.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I ran/snuck into Coachella music festival all three days last year.

Teach, Learn, Share

In civil engineering, we were taught to design to the nearest 0.001 inch then we would multiply by 3 to make every structure 3 times stronger than necessary. So most bridges and buildings in the USA are designed 3 times stronger than engineering says in necessary.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am happy to share any stories, perspectives, and beliefs that are welcome. I know a bit of rock climbing so if you need a belay partner, find me some ropes and rock
