About Me

CURRENT MISSION

See, hear and play as much music as possible. Especially Jazz!

ABOUT ME

I'm an extremely thin, slightly nasal-voiced New Zealander born in England. I value art and conversation and I'm a bit of a socialist. I need glasses for reading but can't find them so now I'm just squinting furiously at the screen while I type this. I consider myself to be a fairly terrible traveller and tourist because I find sightseeing completely overwhelming... but I do enjoy going to different places to meet the people, hear the music and try the food!

PHILOSOPHY

A little bit of Schopenhauer and Montaigne and a lot of Epicurus

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm new to CS but my brother and girlfriend have both done a lot of couchsurfing, and I'm keen to join the club! I have spent quite a bit of time hosting unofficial couchsurfers at my folk's place and at my flat in Wellington, and I've spent a lot of time on floors and couches in my time touring NZ and Australia with various bands. Can't host at the moment because I'm between places but will be paying it back ASAP!

Interests

Music (especially jazz. Did I mention jazz?) reading, cooking, eating, drinking (especially beer and tea. And coffee. And scotch!), theatre, politics, chit-chatting, walking swimming and lounging around, history, people and animals, vegetables, minerals, etc etc

Music, Movies, and Books

I dig jazz a lot. Favorite book might be.. Italo Calvino's "If On a Winter's Night a Traveller". Have read a helluva lot of science fiction and fantasy, with Atwood and Le Guin taking a bunch of the top spots there. Movies I'm less certain about, I never get round to watching them because there's so much practice to do!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm always happy to share what I know about NZ and playing music, and am always keen to know about others' language and culture.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I really like to cook and have a lot of fun putting something delicious together in other people's kitchens. Could make you a feast? I've got an eye for beer, and we can jam if you like. If you don't play, maybe a private concert??
