About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel the world telling jokes

ABOUT ME

I am a touring stand-up comedian. I used to be a cyclist, but now I have a small gut. I am a painter. I am an Eagle Scout, but I am not that good at knots.

I am also the host of a popular podcast called The Battery Podcast. Check out episode 11 of my podcast about the couchsurfing community called "Couch Potato, Couch Surf, Couch Fire!"

PHILOSOPHY

Do good stuff. Karma is not a bitch, bit you better treat people right or else karma can be bitch-y.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have surfed all over the U.S. Still haven't surfed overseas, but hope to change that real soon! CS has been awesome! We have met so many people all over the country. We have hosted some and surfed a lot. Looking to host more.

Additionally, I've been to a few CS mixers.

My wife is a surfer too! We haven't doen much hosting in Austin yet, but if we're in town, we'd love to host you on our futon or couch! UPDATE: sold the futon.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I first got into CS in Everett, WA. I accidentally broke my host's towel bar. Sorry about that, Chad! Turns out it was already broken. Phew!

I met some awesome surfers in Dallas who put me up, took me rock climbing (indoors), and came to my show. Jen now lives in Austin (where I live) and my wife and I are sponsors for her food truck!

I also met a really cool dude in Ft. Worth who went to breakfast with me, showed me around town, and gave me my first molè (a mexican dish). That was awesome!

I hung out with some really cool folks who put me up in Boston. We went to the bar, caught a game, had pizza, and I got my butt handed to me when I ate my first ghost chili. Dang those things are hot!

That host also hosted another surfer simultaneously. She and I went to a fish restaurant. We got to eat birthday cake because the staff celebrated the owner's birthday.

The thing is, pretty much every CSer I have hosted or stayed with is now my friend. Or, if we haven't kept in touch, I at least have a deep memory I can take around with me on my travels.

Several of the folks who have hosted me (and now my wife) have hosted us more than once. We've got great friends in Fort Worth, Dallas, North Carolina, Little Rock, and more. What an amazing way to make friends!

Also, I met my wife through CS! Doesn't get much better than that!

Music, Movies, and Books

Cry the Beloved Country (book), Defiance (movie). These are not my only favorites. I am still working on the list. Pretty much all hardcore punk, bebop, funk. Tao Te Ching (the most useful book I have ever read).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I did a 175-mile bike ride in 2009. I also climbed a 14-er ( a mountain that is 14,000 feet or higher). I am also an Eagle Scout. One time, I ate 25 corn dogs in a week. I felt gross after that.

I am currently learning how to fix bikes. Since I got in a nasty bike accident last year, I am in desperate need of a bike. Rather than buy a new one, I am learning how to rebuild the one I have! UPDATE: the bike has been half-fixed for about 6 months. There has been no progress in 6 months. Not ride-able.

I have been in stand-up comedy for 13 years. The more I do this, the more I learn to be humble. People who brag about themselves speak mainly to themselves. If somebody else wants to say nice things about me, cool. Also, I just love listening. That's way more interesting! When we hang out, I might seem quiet at first. I just like listening and seeing what you have to say. I'm a curious person!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love the stage. I love sharing a good story. I like making art. I feel best when I do yoga. I want to know it well enough to teach it. Not quite there yet.
