About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Living my life like it's golden.

ABOUT ME

I'm Jake. I'm not your typical Essex lad!

I made the decision in 2011 to travel solo to gain valuable life experience, meet new friends and become more confident. Since leaving home I have met some of the most amazing people that I want to stay in touch with forever. I now love meeting people from all over the world and hearing their travelling tales.

I love football, NOT soccer, Football (one of the only things I miss about being home!) I have a great passion for music too and enjoy DJing in my spare time. Travel writing is something else I really enjoy. I have my own blog and occassionally write articles for travel and sport websites for extra pocket money.

I am very happy most of the time, chatty but also very chilled out. I am extremely content with the person that I have turned out to be since I have travelled. I feel good about myself, enjoy living life and look forward to seeing what the future has to hold.

PHILOSOPHY

I try to live my life in memory of my mother, who sadly passed away at the very young age of 32. My philosophy is to have as much fun as I can whilst meeting as many interesting people as possible whilst I have the opportunity.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Although I have been signed up to couchsurfing for almost two years, it wasn't until just recently that I surfed for the first time. I aim to surf a lot more now after an excellent first experience. Being a traveller on the road unfortunately I cannot host at the moment but it's definitely something I will consider IF I ever go back to England :P

Music, Movies, and Books

I love most types of music but especially have a big liking for drum and bass, reggae and alternative music. Indie, trance, deep house, and jazz are also present on my Ipod. Current favourites include Bonobo, Flume and the latest Kanye album!

I've never really been that into movies to be honest. I don't have the time to sit around and watch them. Too busy watching sport! :P

Since I have travelled I have read a few books that have been truely inspiring. " First they killed my father" was an autobiography about the brutality of the war in Cambodia. I read this book when I was in Cambodia and although very upsetting it really helped me understand how bad things really were there. I try to read as many books as I can but I usually spend any spare time that I have now updating my blog or exploring!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spent Christmas Day 2011 hiking the Tongariro crossing in the North island of New Zealand. I will never forget this day, the people, the scenery and the occasion made this a Christmas day to remember forever. We even had champagne in the hot-tub and a big bbq in the evening!
