Below is old. I have now graduated and am living in Washington DC. I just started a new job in October and am busy exploring my new city.

Trek myself to Portugal the long way.

ABOUT ME

I am studying to be a lawyer, spending a semester in Portugal starting in September. Before law school I spent three years backpacking. In my travels I blazed around Europe, flashed through North America, lived and traveled 25,000+km of Australian road, hopped from Fiji to New Zealand, peaked my way around Malaysia, spent months diving the reefs of Thailand, took a deep breath in Vietnam, rested my feet in Japan, explored the Middle East and ended it all back in Europe.

Before my addiction to travel I was a recent Vassar College graduate. I studied philosophy and economics. Though while traveling I work as an event supervisor, brewer, in hospitality and as a professional diver.

My trip started backpacking 15 countries in Europe staying in hostels, couch surfing, camping, rough camping and even squatting in a WW2 bunker on an island off the coast of Marseilles. I love beer and food and I kept a journal concerning both throughout my travels--though I lost it in Paris :(

The only way I could describe myself is as open minded and driven. I am always down for a new experience and a new perspective. When I decide to do something-I do it. I am business minded, but do not let it run my life. I am kind of a mix of hippie, hip hop head and investment banker. Yes my identity is very confused. I am very outgoing. Mainly I just like to have a good time and to make sure everyone around me is having a good time also. More than anything I enjoy a truly challenging intellectual conversation. Just below that a good laugh and of course a good party. I would say my life revolves around 3 themes: helping other people, helping myself, and having a damn good time!

PHILOSOPHY

I am a mash-up of hedonist, lover, thinker, and talker. I tend to be very emotional, and usually let that emotion guide me. I find "feeling" to be what makes us human, and so I try to stay true to my humanity. However, I also seem to posses the ability to use logic to trump emotion and do this when my feelings are blocking me from living a normal life. I do not mind negative emotion, in fact I think it is important, but I do allow myself to talk my way out of negative emotion when it is disproportionally high in my life. So I guess I am also a rationalist.

When I was 17 I was walking down the street with a close friend of mine at about 3 in the morning. There was a kid walking towards us and about 5 large men following behind him yelling slurs about his sexual orientation. Suddenly one of the men ran up to him and pushed him to the ground. The rest of the men then ran up to him and started to kick him. After a moment they dragged him over to the curb and put his head against it. They began to stomp his head. It was right in front of me, but I was completely frozen. My friend was not though. He went right into the middle of them and pushed them away from the kid. He told the men calmly that "that is enough, you should leave now" and they listened to him and ran away. I watched my friend as he bravely put himself at extreme risk to possibly save someone else' life. The ambulance was called and the kid survived.

I am very knowledgeable about philosophy, about logic/rationality and about self motivation. I also have started and have run multiple community organizations and can help people who have great ideas but don't know where to start.

I also love to cook and to learn new cooking techniques and recipes.

I am interested in learning better Spanish, about your own brewing methods, and about what you think makes you human.
