CURRENT MISSION

Will be visiting Iceland for a short while in August with my girlfriend Mel, and we would love to meet/stay with a local.

ABOUT US

I (Ja) am from Ireland, and I recently moved to Vancouver, Canada and am living with my girlfriend, Mel. Mel is from Vancouver and is a piercer/hair stylist. I am a writer. We are going on our first big trip together this summer. We will be visiting England, Ireland and Iceland over a month, and we hope to meet some interesting people during our trip. Basically, we are like everyone else on here; we just want to have a good time. Also, the stereotypes are true by the way - I need potatoes to survive.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW WE PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We will have a couch in Vancouver come winter 2016 (it's an awesome place in down town Vancouver, I promise), so toss a message our way when we get home. For now though, we would appreciate any sort of space to crash while we are travelling.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Mel is a CS virgin, but I have some experience, which has been great - stayed with people and have hosted people and figure it's time to step up the pace a bit.

Interests

Writing, weird foreign films that our friends make fun of us for, crafting, reading, drawing, tattoos, life, travelling of course! And hanging out with our pet bunny, Butt.

'The Sea' by John Banville, 'On The Road' - Jack Kerouac, 'Notes from Underground' - Doysteyevsky (probably spelled that wrong), 'Bound for Glory' - Woody Guthrie, Miller, Marukumi, Kafka, Joyce, theatre (Ibsen, Crimp)etc.
Mel is illiterate. Haha I joke, but I am not about to list each Harry Potter title.

Music I like Man Man, The Villagers, Tool, Puscifer, Joe Pug, Damien Rice, Caribou, St. Vincent, Fever Ray, Unkle, blah blah blah.Oh, and Jeff Buckley is my favourite of all time.

Like all sorts of movies; Ichi the killer, Oldboy, Taxidermia, Requiem for a dream, A Clockwork Orange, Fight Club, and my personal favourite 2001: A Space Oddysey (We watch lots of weird, dark foreign romances - the names have too many syllables to recount here, and we don't understand them half the time anyway. They are just a good excuse to nap.)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Not sure what the most amazing thing I've ever seen is. The fairy chimneys in Cappadocia (Turkey) are up there, or the weird communist UFO in Valeko Talnova (Bulgaria), and I really liked the temples in Bagan (Burma). I guess I have been lucky enough to see a lot of fascinating things, which I am grateful for.

Mel drove her mobile makeover truck to Alaska with her bunny a couple of years ago. She lived in the truck, working on the road, for ten months!
