About Me

*********************MY STORY*********************
Born and bred in Rochdale (UK), but spent most recent years escaping it which commenced studying an Undergraduate Master in Civil Engineering at University College London (currently ranked 10th in the world... previously 4th). Of which 1 year was spent studying at the University of Western Australia (currently ranked 91st in the world).

I've recently graduated with First Class Honours and have delayed my future corporate working life for UK Railways giving me a year to explore North America with my primary objective to live and work in Whistler Blackcomb Resort, Canada.

*****************MY PERSONALITY*****************
"I'm a very unique individual" (everyone on here says that, but I genuinely am!). I went to acting school since I was 6, played musical instruments since I was 9, hence I've spent most of my life performing. So I have an overwhelming amount of confidence in life which I apply mostly when meeting new people. Some might say I make them feel I've known you for a while when we first start talking, but that's the ultimate impression I want to make so we can skip the small talk and head to the nearest pub for some "good times".

I'm incredibly adventurous and pursue most activities to the extreme, my ideal hikes involve several days in the back country (especially alpine), because you see so much more over multi-day hikes. I have an advanced diving license for exploring reefs and wrecks up to 30ft and have dived in Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand. Whilst in NZ I also skydived over Lake Wanaka and Bungy Jumped twice in Queenstown. I kitesurf to an intermediate level and am still learning to surf upwind. Finally, I'm a very enthusiastic winter sport fan and ski to an advanced level. I hope during this season I will learn how to safely skitour so I can explore the wilderness just as much on foot in the summer as on skis in the winter.

*********************MY HABITS********************
NEAT FREAK - I'm a clean guy, I like my things to be out of other people's way, especially when being hosted. So I struggle staying and travelling with people who can't keep their things organised.

MORNING PERSON - I'm usually awake before 07:00 and asleep by 22:00. I like to be on the trail, road, ski slope, theme park at the earliest opportunity to maximise the day and hate to be kept waiting around for people who sleep in everyday (I only do that on my rest days). But I can keep going all night when I have to.

HIGHBROW - From working in hospitality for 5 years alongside the places, cultures and delicacies I've explored, I know exactly what I do and don't like when it comes to Food and Beverages. I'm a pescatarian foodie and Beer/Wine enthusiast I am always actively exploring food and drink cultures. I'm never one to shy from trying new things, but I will only spend the dollar on food that fascinates me, good coffee, premium wines and craft beers. Take me to breweries, wineries, coffee roasteries, your favourite restaurant I want to try it all.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm no stingy guy when it comes to travelling so if I have to pay for accommodation I will, but my best accommodation experiences have always been spending $50 on a nice meal or activity with a host rather than $50 on a bunk bed usually surrounded by people who can't keep their stuff in their bags... or pants (in some few cases).

I also experience so much more of a place if I stay with someone who breathes daily in the local culture and can show me all things a search engine can't.

Finally, I enjoy travelling alone so I can control my itineraries, hence Couchsurfing has been perfect for finding other lonesome like-minded travelers in which my most honed memories are shared with.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Forgetting all the activities a privileged white person can do with $$$, the most amazing thing I've genuinely done was volunteer as a Bus Driver to transport some Afghani Children to their Saturday morning swim lessons provided by Swim For Refugees Charity at the University of Western Australia. I was bedazzled by how much a small giving of my Saturday morning could provide to the families of these children, given what most refugees have suffered in a short lifetime. Henceforth, upon returning to London I hope to get more actively involved in Volunteering opportunities, and I encourage other people to do also.

What I Can Share with Hosts

One skill yet to be discussed, but offered towards hosts and those I travel with are my cooking skills. At home I make fresh meals throughout the day specialising primarily in traditional English cooking (of course), but also various Breakfast dishes alongside South-East Asian, Middle Eastern and Italian cuisines. Most of which are made to be vegan or vegetarian. With the help of two Germans recently I have also started baking my own breads, so you have that to look forward to also. Cooking tasty, colourful well presented food is a hobby for me so people think most of the time I'm doing them a favour, whereas in reality you are doing me the favour for letting me pursue my greatest hobby which most hostels and camping stoves don't. Other than that I'm polite, funny and very engaging in what other people have to say, which makes for great entertaining conversation. I also give hosts the opportunity to come stay with me in Central London providing I'm not too busy travelling myself. So hopefully in the future you will come see the phenomenal, iconic city I am fortunate to call home. West End Shows will most likely be involved!
