About Me

I'm from San Francisco/Los Angeles but am currently traveling the world!

I speak English and mandarin fluently, and shitty French and even shittier Japanese 😂

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I hope to meet some interesting people who can share their experiences and show me around their home town. When I travel I like to live like the locals if possible and not be too much of a tourist. I'm curious about the world and want to know what makes people different, what makes them tick, and how they go about their daily lives. I also want to check out some offbeat places that you couldn't find in a guidebook.

Music, Movies, and Books

Pulp fiction... anything by Tarantino really

I decided to try reading a book about or related to the place I'm visiting when I'm there. The problem is that I don't read fast enough so the reading list is start to pile up.

Currently reading:

The baroque cycle (there's 8 books and I've only made it about 1/3 through the first one XD)
Le Comte de Monte Cristo
L'ecume des Jours

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went to the top of Mont Blanc to see a glacier that probably won't exist in a few years. From the top you can see the treeline in the cliffs (which was the historical level of the glacier) and the glacier today is maybe more than 100m below that (I'm not sure, it's hard to tell scale when the thing is so massive). As you descend to the glacier there are markers telling you what the level was in 2000, 2005, etc., and the distance between the markers are increasing as you descend as a sharp reminder of what's happening to the world today. At the bottom you can go inside a grotto (an ice cave) they've carved into the glacier, and you can touch ice that's been there probably since the time of mammoths, meanwhile there's water dripping all around you because it's melting. So... it's a pretty sobering experience, but also incredible. You should go before the ice is all gone =)
