About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Always trying to return the favor for all the great couch surfing I have done, even though I can't always host, and sometimes have too many requests to host everyone!

ABOUT ME
Traveling in my tiny home. Just returned to New England from California. Down for new friends. Can really use some hosting right now while I'm in the Northeast where it's not as friendly to tiny house bus dwellers!

PHILOSOPHY

The emptiness of emptiness. The import of laughter and physical health. Communion with nature. Climbing. Community. And the perpetuation of the universe we perceive, with each action we take.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I couchsurfed a number of times when traveling on a very tight budget and moving between countries in my late teens and early twenties. I haven't surfed much since, UNTIL NOW!!!, but I have hosted a lot primarily in 2011 and 2013-2015.

I RECENTLY ARRIVED BACK FROM CALIFORNIA IN A BEAUTIFUL BUS THAT I'VE BEEN CONVERTING TO A TINY HOME FOR TWO YEARS. I DONT HAVE A SALARIED JOB YET NOR AN APARTMENT, SO IT WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL TO HAVE ANY DRIVEWAYS OR STREETS WHERE I CAN PARK, EVEN FOR 1 NIGHT, OR FOR 1 NIGHT EVERY TWO WEEKS. I CAN BE COMPLETELY SILENT AND DONT NEED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE EARLY OR LATE, AS I CAN BIKE OR TAKE THE TRAIN TO WORK. I AM A SILENT RESPECTFUL PRESENCE AS A GUEST.

THANK YOU SO, SO MUCH!!! HOPING TO CALL IN SOME COUCHSURFIN' CHIPS...although...even the hosting I've done felt like receiving a wonderful gift.

Lastly, I used my bus as a homeless shelter at times in California, especially during rainy nights. I hosted people with nowhere to go on my two hammocks and on two air mattresses in the 'living room' area of my bus. Unfortunately, I am not equipped to take on that type of guest right now, given my relative insecurity of finance and housing for the moment. However, I have also hosted traveling trimmers, and tourists, and tiny-home voyeurs, often for a sliding scale donation of 0-20/night. If anyone really wants to experience the bus, you can reach out and stay with me for free for a night or for a weekend. I have to screen and limit guests at the moment though. Sorry. Hosting quickly accelerates! :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My ex-fiancee and I hosted a few great surfers in Boston and many, many great couchsurfers traveling the California Coast during my six years living in Pacific Grove, Monterey and Santa Cruz.

I always loved the hosts I had when traveling between 18 and 24 years old--surfed a hand full of times. And I always loved the guests we hosted, which were often even better experiences than my couchsurfing.

Interests

Hiking, camping and rock-climbing are my most loved activities. Also into aquaponics gardening, traditional gardening, cycling, running, reading, brewing beer... I have a bike, an electric motorcycle, and a renovated cruiser tandem from way back, so there are plenty of bikes to go around. Love to cook and to host, when possible. I like a movie or playing music after a long day playing outside or working.

I'm interested in fostering healthy, tolerant and more egalitarian community.

Music, Movies, and Books

Right now: Steinbeck! More generally, Kafka, Salinger, Beatnick, Russian, Rumi, and non-fiction, especially on environmental policy or human development rights/access.
I watch a lot of old movies, and my music tastes change by the month, but this week include: Herbie Hancock, Amadou & Mariam, The National, LCD Soundsystem, and as always, some folk. Special shout out to De Osos.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I studied at a Buddhist monastery in Nepal for one semester of my undergrad, and then studied in Ecuador the next semester. Rachel studied in Uruguay. I recently climbed Mt. Washington in winter (see my couch-surfing pic.) I also climbed Everest, in silence, up to Kalaa Patar and slightly beyond. Lately, our amazing moments are a little more local: hanging out on the carpet with the rabbits reading a book, baking something together, going climbing in New Hampshire....

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach basic brewing, all-grain brewing, basic Mandarin, Spanish, and climbing. *(But I'm not legally credentialed to teach you anything about climbing.)
Rachel can teach medicine, and very advanced Knitting.
We're both interested in learning Spanish. I'm interested to learn electrical engineering, wood-working, and Mandarin.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm happy to participate in chores or home maintenance, cooking and cleaning, community meals.
Im great with insulation, piping, and rough carpentry.
I'm also in for climbing, surfing, skiing, hiking, camping and other outdoor adventure.
