Overview
About Me
I am a wander, probably like most on this site. My favourite part of travel is meeting people. I have been work/traveling overseas for the last 18 years. I am an elementary teacher doing contracts around the globe. Besides teaching, I have a great interest in meditation and mindfulness. I combine the two interests by designing mindfulness programs for my students to help them gain greater insight into their own lives. I have two cats, Dr. Pickles and Professor Phranklin D. Snuggle-bottoms (snuggles) that keep me company. I am a happy go lucky guy that is definitely a happy morning person. Thanks for reading!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
My friend Steph told me about couch surfing. I thought it was an amazing way to meet locals in a community. I love making new friends and this seems like a great way to connect to the people and places I visit.
Interests
Teaching, traveling, mindfulness, yoga, animals, mountain bikes, scuba diving, hiking, exploring, guitar, drawing/sketching, sunrises.
Music, Movies, and Books
I don't have just one genre. I am a spectrum of interests. I like almost all music from techno to classical. Most of the year I am reading for work with new pedagogical practices, but I enjoy typical travel books, self care, cooking, and fantasy novels.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I had a great life that I left to learn how meditate with Theravada monks in Thailand. It was a 26 day silent retreat that completely changed the way I saw the world.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am always looking for new things to learn. My students keep me busy with the latest technology. I am fascinated by AI and the implications for the future. I have studied Thai massage and gained a certificate for this. Some 18 years ago I trained in Tantric Yoga in Rishikesh and spent 6 months in an ashram in Darhamsala studying the yoga sutras and yogic philosophy. I am learning to draw and paint. I also play a few chords on the guitar and enjoy making up songs. I love sharing stories and enjoying the little things in life.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I think the greatest thing that I can share with my hosts is a genuine heart and mind that is open to the way that they live. I can teach mindfulness, massage, share stories and a laugh too.
