About Me

Hi, my name is James and I am 24 years old.

In January 2016 I set off with a close friend to travel South East Asia and have been travelling ever since. After spending five months altogether in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Bali, I came to Australia to start my working holiday visa.

It's fair to say that my first year in Australia, which was a mixture of both work (mainly hospitality) and travel, was the best year of my life where I saw amazing places and met amazing friends. In May this year I travelled to New Zealand for a two week holiday with my friend and decided to fly home afterwards to catch up with friends and family who I hadn't seen in a long time. It was great, however Australia is where I want to be and so here I am on my second year working holiday visa.

The next year in Australia will again be a balance of work and travel, seeing new places and meeting new faces.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couch surfing to meet new people who can show me a real insight into the town/city that im visiting. I appreciate that hostels give you great opportunites to meet new faces and socialise, which I love, however I feel that couchsurfing will bring me together with people who knows the ins and outs - the great bars, the cheap food, the sights that are worth seeing.

I love to meet new people and Couchsurfing is a great way to interact with others who are wanting to share their stories and to help people get on their feet in a new environment.

Interests

I love day trips with my friends, listening to music and most of all food. Whenever I am somewhere new I love to seek out the best spots for food, some have said I should start my own food blog where I document my meals and rate the food - im not sure how well that would take off.

I like a balance of adventure and peace. My ideal weekend would be drinks with friends on a friday night, a long walk on a saturday and a chill day in the house on sunday with films and pizza.

Music, Movies, and Books

You will always find me listening to music, and it'll mostly be r'n'b, hip hop and top 40. Saying that, I love 80's power ballads and my friends and I have got into a bizarre routine of sitting round a table for hours singing to Cher, Luther Vandross & Celine Dion.

When it comes to movies I like dramas and thrillers. Action is fine, just sometimes a bit too much for my brain to deal with.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Visiting the elephant sanctuary back in Thailand was pretty amazing, we got to feed and wash the elephants. It was a great feeling taking care of them as they can often be so badly mistreated.

Back in 2014, I did a two week road trip down the east coast of America and have been wanting to go back ever since. It's probably the over the top food that's calling my name.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would like to think that I am great company, saying that I know when to give people space, as I myself like alone time now and again. Some say my stories are funny, others would say they arent. I would say a bad story is better than no story at all.

Countries I’ve Visited
