About Me
Hi, I'm James! I'm a lover of science, music, travelling, nature and experiencing different cultures...to name but a few things!
By profession I'm an astronomer; I picked up my astrophysics degree from the two Universities in Liverpool (seems weird, but it was a joint course!).
What I do outside of that...well, it varies! I've played guitar for over a decade and absolutely love live music and creating music; particularly modern progressive rock and modern fingerstyle guitar (predominantly instrumental stuff) but I listen to absolutely all sorts and lap up pretty much anything that's being played live!
I love exploring nature; mountains, rivers, beaches, woods, fields, all of it. (And of course, the night sky!).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Who wouldn't want to travel to new places and also meet great, friendly new people! The fact that this is a community for globetrotters to travel and not break the bank is remarkable, and it would be fantastic to create new memories to enjoy!

Music, Movies, and Books
Current bands are more like: Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson, Plini, David Micic, Soen, Opeth, Alter Bridge, Arcane Roots, TesseracT, Nick Johnston
The classics: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Joe Satriani, Audioslave, Alice in Chains...
...these could all go on for a while!
Films and books? Yeah, I think The Lord of the Rings takes both.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Trekked up the Himilayas (Annapurna region) in early 2018!
Teach, Learn, Share
Always willing to share my knowledge on science (I'm a science communicator, after all!), music, language (English first language, so hopefully not too bad on that front!). But I'm willing to learn anything - I love deep discussions and good conversation!
What I Can Share with Hosts
Good conversation, a helping hand in whatever way I can, guitar should you wish to hear it and good stories and experiences.
