Sobre mí

So hey, I’m James, 24, from Leeds in England. I’m open minded, adventurous, and laidback. Super laidback! I have a positive approach on life and believe that you shouldn’t take it too seriously. You’ve only got one lift so you might as well make the most of it!

I made this profile as I’m hoping to meet other people similar to myself, or even people completely different, all over the world. That’s the beauty of travelling. You’re thrown out your comfort zone and you find that some of the people you wouldn’t ‘normally’ think you’d get on with, they’re the people you learn so much from and have the best times with.

It all started when I was 18, the travel bug. The urge to see what the rest of the world has to offer. That’s when I had to ask myself the really important question; do I want to go to University and get a degree like everybody else my age, or do I really wanna learn more about myself and gain invaluable life experience instead? AND see the world with my mates? Yep.. One outcome. I booked a one way ticket to Australia when I’d just turned 18 – I had £2000 in my account, no place to stay when I landed in Australia and no job. Fast forward 2 years, I’m returning from my travels, £2500 in the bank, have a second year visa in Australia waiting for me and 11 countries visited ticked off the list. I gained so much life experience from it all, met some amazing people, learned about myself, travelled the world and had a hell of a time doing it!

So what can you expect from me? Well, I’m your every day twenty four year old. I’m an avid traveller, I like going out drinking (who doesn’t like a drink?!), I like going to gigs, having a laugh, going out for walks, visiting new places, sharing travelling stories, listening to music, seeing what other cultures involve, eating new foods, meeting new people, partying.. Anything social really. I (unfortunately) have responsibilities and a home life to maintain so I can’t just decide to book a one way ticket and get outta here again even though I really wanna, so I’m hoping to go on some new adventures and thought I’d see what the couchsurfing community had to offer – See if there was anyone wanting to experience it with me, wherever I may be. It doesn’t necessarily have to be doing any of the things I listed above, I’m generally open to ideas and offers. Besides, if you’re alone or wanting someone to do something with – Chances are, other people are too.

If I do stay in your home, one thing you can expect from me is respect. I’ve done the whole travelling thing; I’m aware respect is a give and take thing. You can expect me to abide by your rules. I’m not a morning person, I’m more into staying up late and watching the world pass by. I’ve got a carefree attitude and in my eyes.. if you’re the host and you’re offering me a roof over my head, you make the rules. If you go to bed at 10pm, then you’re probably not the person for me sorry – but I’d love to still get to know you! I just wouldn’t want to disturb you coming in later or want to seem rude when you’re getting up at 6am and I’m fast asleep.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

It’s basically the same as what I mentioned above. I don’t have the time to just drop everything at the minute of a hat and book a one way ticket outta here. And due to work commitments and friends having their own commitments, it’s not as easy to organise something together and book to go somewhere – especially when we’re all into different things – so I figured why hold back and not bother going, when I can fly solo and meet new people on the way.

I’m hoping to visit new countries and meet people from the CS community who can hopefully show me how to experience things the way locals do. It doesn’t have to be full on, spending every day together, it could be a brief chat in a coffee shop, it could be sharing travelling stories over a beer, it could be listening to live music in a dark dingy bar, it could be getting absolutely smashed and staying out partying till 10am the next morning, I’m open to possibilities. I want to meet someone fun, someone who wants to have a laugh, see new things. If you think that’s you then let me know.

Música, películas y libros

I could be here all day writing about music, then movies, books not so much haha. Honestly I’ve only read a handful of books – not through any other reason than the fact I tend to read books when I’m on holiday lying on a beach somewhere, so when I try read them any other time it doesn’t have the same effect. A great book is Dan Brown – The Da Vinci Code though. Probably the best book I’ve ever read (there isn’t a lot to choose from).

Music, heh, anything with a guitar. My music taste is so varied. I can go from one minute listening to a bit of heavy metal, to the next listening to some house music or something old school like The Smiths. I generally listen to everything – Live music is one of my favourite things. If you know anywhere like that when I’m visiting you, or you wanna see that here, let me know!

Algo increíble que he hecho

An amazing experience I had was when I was travelling Indonesia. My scuba dive instructor who I got to know really well, he was pretty much the only person that’d ever made it out of his hometown village but he took me there – the first person he’d ever taken back to where he calls home. To put that into context, I was the second white person in that village ever – the first white person there was 10 years before, and he said in their lifetime there probably won’t be another white person that ever gets to visit. If that isn’t amazing, I don’t know what is. The thing is with this question, there’s so many memories that spring to mind and I could be hear for hours just writing about what it is that was so amazing about my travels but, I won’t write them all on here. I’ll save them stories for you in person!

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

I can make a mean scrambled eggs on toast, if you wanna learn that? Haha, no but I have so many awesome travelling stories I’d love to share. I’d love to listen to where you’ve been, where you want to go, what got you into travelling in the first place. You can expect me to be respectful, polite and to be able to have a laugh around me. I’m all about fun, I don’t really wanna sit there doing nothing keeping myself to myself
