ABOUT ME

Two for the price of one, we travel as a unit so it just made sense to streamline and have one profile. We are James and Robert, a 20 something couple going on five years together, married as of June 26th, 2015! We spend most of our time in Austin, Texas and love weaving ourselves into the fabric of the city, but it may be our last summer here so its a little sad to see the end of an era. But it would be wonderful to live in a place with a climate. James was born in the US, but moved to Montreal, Toronto and various places in the US. Robert was born in Genk, Belgium, moved lived London UK and various places in the US and Munich and Amsterdam at the same time. James, is a linguistics major and Robert will be graduating December of 2015 with a degree in European Studies. James is kind of an amateur polyglot and speak 4 languages fairly fluently, the most fluent besides English is German.
We both come from a long line for of various cultural inter-breeding. Together we are Tejano Dutch Hillbilly jew coon-ass French Canuck. We are only truly living when we are on the road traveling. Seeing new things and experience new cultures. We are easy going and love life.

PHILOSOPHY

Our personal philosophy is pretty much to be human. Being human means to love and help others as you'd want to be helped and loved if you needed to be. Being human means to accept everyone as they are and not trying to twist them into what you deem to be acceptable. We are all deserving of being treated as equals.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

when we are not working or in school, we'd be able to show you around the city or host. While surfing try to give back as much as we take in, serve as ambassadors if you will.

That being said. We are not here for you to leave your stuff at our apartment, just so you can go out and party all night with your friends and then take off the next day. We don't really have too many rules on you crashing here. We do, however, expect you to respect us and our home and our neighbors.

We do not expect all of this from you. We do expect there to be a mutual respect between host and surfer(s).

IF YOU NEED TO CANCEL OR HAVE A CHANGE IN PLANS, PLEASE LET US KNOW AHEAD OF TIME AS WE DO SET OUR SCHEDULES AROUND OUR SURFERS.

We do understand that sometimes surfers would like their alone time, and that is understandable. We also understand that sometimes they'll get in late and have been traveling all day and do not want to socialize upon arrival. We'll get you guys settled in and let you sleep.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We've had hosts treat us like family from the start. It's amazing how many wonderful people we've been able to meet on our travels. We've had hosts give us keys to their homes and trust us completely not to rob them blind. It's an amazing feeling that someone would trust a perfect stranger in their homes. We try to do the same thing. We will give you a key and let you make yourselves at home.

Interests

We both love to cook and travel as often as we can. We travel at least 4 times a year and are always cooking. We live in a fantastic place. All of our neighbors are like family and we are always cooking for them and having dinners in the courtyard.

Music, Movies, and Books

Out of the two of us who read the most, it's ...James, reading all the time. "I recently finished a fantastic series called "A Discovery of Witches" that didn't involve teenage vampires that glitter...don't get me wrong...I actually really enjoyed the Twilight series, but I mean...come on? What kind of vampire sparkles? We are both really into the paranormal. I am pagan of belief and have always loved the unknown. I do not dabble with the paranormal, because I do not want to do something that I cannot later undo"
Robert has a much wider range of love for music and movies of the two of us. Play something, anything for Robert, and I bet he'll know when and where it was produced. Kubrick, new Hollywood, French new wave anything indie. Punk, folk, old country, rock and again indie.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Riding on the roof of a train in IndiaThe Aurora borealis is probably one of the most beautiful things I had experienced. I just stood there, speechless. Just the array of color emitted from this anomaly is absolutely breathtaking. I had been lucky enough to have been able to travel all to many different places. I think the Netherlands Antillies was one of the most beautiful places I had been.

Teach, Learn, Share

We are always interested in learning new things! I am a HUGE language enthusiast. I love languages and I love removing a language barrier from my life. If anyone is interested in German, Dutch or Afrikaans, I could lend a helping hand and if anyone is into architecture and history, that is Roberts department. He is extremely intelligent.

however, please don't send a request more than three and a half weeks in advance. My Work schedule is made three weeks ahead of time, so it can be hard to accept any requests after that time unless it it is urgent/last minute and or if your host has bailed on you.
