About Me

I like hosting adventurers and try to accommodate cyclists, hikers, hitchhikers, and roadtrippers whenever possible.

I also like maps and beer. If you bring me maps and/or beer, we'll probably be friends.

CURRENT MISSION

See as much of this rock as I can and do cool stuff while I'm at it!

Recent adventures: South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho in Feb 2016, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia in Sep-Oct 2016, Norway in May 2017, solar eclipse in South Carolina August 2017, Haiti in June 2018, New Brunswick August 2018, Iceland December 2018, southern USA January 2019, Philippines October 2019, central America December 2019

ABOUT ME

I'm a meteorologist in the Hudson Valley of New York. I run too much and eat too much to compensate for it. Joined this site cause I'm trying to go cool places and friends tell me this is a great way to make that happen.

I want to improve my Spanish fluency and have just started learning Russian so if you can speak either of those languages I'd love to host you

PHILOSOPHY

My philosophy is strongly against overthinking this question 😁

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just one? Nah...

-Seen the Aurora Borealis from the top of Mount Washington
-Gone skiing on an Interstate highway during a blizzard
-Lived out of my tent in the woods for two months
-Runner's high
-Gotten caught in a thunderstorm on the Drakensberg plateau in Lesotho
-Hiked the length of the Long Trail in Vermont
-Taught myself Spanish
-Recognized that my Spanish is still pretty bad and I need people to practice with
-Sat on a roof (that was a second floor pre-earthquake) in Port-au-Prince explaining winter sports to Haitians
-Helped with fundraising for a foreign language school in Haiti that I got involved with through CS

In the "amazingly stupid" category:

-Gotten stupendously drunk and taken a piss into the Niagara River off the Rainbow Bridge
-Gotten stupendously drunk and had one of the deepest philosophical conversations of my life, then gave some homeless dude 140 bucks... which was all the money I had to my name at the time :(
-Got my first-ever speeding ticket in Latvian
-Run face-first into several trees

What I Can Share with Hosts

People seem to think I'm funny... so I guess I'll probably make you laugh either intentionally or unintentionally. If you wanna see something really hilarious and don't mind your kitchen being on fire I could try cooking something. Although I do seem to have a certain talent for making scrambled eggs. Or any kind of eggs really. And bacon. And toast. Breakfast foods in general seem to be the only things I can cook right. Never been quite able to figure that one out... I'm also pretty good with maps and directions and such and generally knowing exactly where I am and not getting lost. So if that's a useful skill in any way while I'm at your house... yeah, that. I'm also really good at figuring out how to move large pieces of furniture through doors they don't look like they should fit through.

Other than that, I generally just try to be as respectful as I can be of the place I'm staying and the people in it.
