About Me
Put shortly, in no particular order, these things are important to me.
cycling, coffee, tea, ale, energetic discussion, introspection, art, music, film, meditation, reading, cooking, eating what you've cooked, science, technology, having a good chill.
I was set on going to university to do documentary photography, although as the deadline for application approached I had second thoughts. I decided my heart wasn't totally on board with the idea of committing to three years of education, to me it seemed like tunnel vision. This last year I've become passionate about speciality coffee, the innovative community is great and being a barista combines a nice amount of science along with lots of tasty things. I want to work and live in another country and know the language of that country, and if I become a highly qualified barista I see this as a means to find a job I'm passionate about. Never have I felt particularly strongly that I have to do something in my life but living abroad and immersing myself in another culture is something I feel I must do. I won't be in a good position to interpret culture if I've only ever experienced my own.
So now my home for the next few years is Bristol, and I will use my free time to visit different countries and decide where I'd like to live after this city.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Couchsurfing is a wonderful way to spend time in a country. It offers something very different to staying in hotels, or even in hostels. How often do we experience the hospitality of a stranger? It's not an overstatement to say that this platform nurtures a great ethos in us when we realise that there are many kind people in the world. To stay and spend time with a local has proven to be such an enriching way to travel, the international CS community is quite something.
Interests
I'm fascinated by this idea of "zeitgeist". What is the essence of our time? A very broad question I know, but things like the internet, digital culture, and how technology changes the way we live interest me very much. I'm a massive techno-optimist so I love arguing for the sake of technology, because in my eyes there is so much good that can be done with it.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music is a huge part of my life, it's part of the reason I live in Bristol. My taste is broad, I don't really know where to start. I spend a lot of time on the website Bandcamp, and I listen to NTS radio for their amazing show curation, I'm also surprised how good youtube recommendations are for finding music.
I'm super into movies, I could start listing directors but I think it's much more fun to talk about this stuff in person. Although one thing I will say is that I'm particularly into sci-fis, especially the relatively scientifically plausible ones.
Books are wicked as they are a unique form of immersion, very different from movies and music. I love words, and the power they have, so reading always feels beneficial as it broadens your vocabulary which makes it easier to express yourself more accurately. I particularly like to read before bed as it helps me unwind and sleep better.
