Overview
About Me
Hola! I'm James from Brisbane, Australia. I'm currently backpacking my way around the USA, Mexico, central/south America and beyond. I'm super easy going and I love meeting open minded people with a sense of adventure!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Living in a society that encourages too much consumption and too little human interaction is scary and unsustainable. I'm on couchsurfing because it encourages the exchange of skills and education rather than wasting resources and profiting businesses which have no interest in the welfare of the planet. Plus it's just fun to meet new people!
Interests
Yoga, films, books, reading, running, music, cooking, cricket, eating, netball, cats, dogs, drums, guitar, hiking
Music, Movies, and Books
Books - I love reading, and the feeling of being completely absorbed in a great story. Some of my favourites are On the road, East of Eden, Catch 22, Junkie, and any Kurt Vonnegut.
Music - I grew up listening to a lot of classic rock, probably because I secretly dreamed of being a guitar god, and sometimes still do. Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Pixies, Nirvana, Bob Dylan were all my heroes as a kid. These days I listen to almost anything. Some of my favourites are Ariel Pink, Animal Collective, Thee oh sees, Beach House, Deerhunter, The Black Lips, and a bunch of local Australian garage bands.
Also a healthy dose of 80's pop music..
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I spent 3 months motorbiking through Vietnam, which was incredibly beautiful and also pretty nerve racking.
This year I also spent a few weeks WWOOFing on the north shore of O'ahu in Hawaii, and met some amazing people with a great vision and lust for life.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am a qualified physiotherapist, and I'm more than happy to help you out with some advice etc. I also play the drums and guitar so if you're learning or interested maybe we can organise a lesson!
What I Can Share with Hosts
See above under teach/learn/share, I am also happy to help out with cooking/cleaning/gardening/basic DIY stuff. I spent a few weeks volunteering on an organic farm in Hawaii and learnt a lot about permaculture/sustainable food production. I can also help out with some basic carpentry and odd jobs.
Countries I’ve Visited
Belgium, Canada, Germany, Japan, Morocco, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States, Viet Nam
