ABOUT ME
I'm currently living outside San Lucas Tolimán, Guatemala, working as an intern with el Comité Campesino del Altiplano, a small-scale farmers collective that produces/sells fair trade coffee and is campaigning for changes to the country's land and labour laws. I've been in Guatemala since December of last year and will be here until next March.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I first used Couchsurfing while traveling in South America in 2010 with my boyfriend at the time. He introduced me to the community and I really like it. I don't think our time in South America could have been better thanks to all the awesome people we met through CS, people who introduced us to places we couldn't have known otherwise. (Lonely Planet guides are far from perfect..) Still, it wasn't just the places but the people themselves that I really appreciate about my time traveling. I see Couchsurfing as a great way to meet new people and learn about a new country or place. It's definitely my preferred way to travel. I have enjoyed hosting some folks, however, in 2011 I moved into a new apartment, with a roommate who did not like strangers staying at our place. So last year I wasn't really able to use Couchsurfing. :( When I do have a place of my own, I definitely plan to host visitors. At the moment I'm living with a co-worker and her family, so hosting is not possible. Check back later this fall, as I'm hoping to rent my own spot in San Lucas!
