About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Peace, love, adventure.

ABOUT ME

I love adventure, photography, cooking, sport, music.

PHILOSOPHY

Karma is key. Love and the present are really what it all boils down to.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am a photographer and yacht skipper so travel a lot. Occasionally I find myself in a new city with a few days to look around. I believe Couchsurfing is the accommodation equivalent of hitchhiking: the single best way to get to know a place and people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I once stayed at some random woman's place in St Louis after finding no hotel rooms due to a Christian convention in the city. She was lovely. Was random but fun. Other than that I tend to stay with friends that I meet in hostels during my adventures or whose yachts I skipper.

Interests

I recently sailed across the Atlantic from the British West Indies to Spain and then on to France in a 40' sloop then a 47' catamaran. I love any kind of adventure. I am now based in Tortola, British Virgin Islands and run a sailing brand called Sailing Virgins.

Music, Movies, and Books

Incendies (FR), hardcore but great movie. As It Is In Heaven (SWE), even better. Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, all those greats. Man's Search For Meaning (Frankl), do it. Peace Is Every Step.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Broken my neck after I left high school! Did it surfing. Was a life-forming experience. That and clinical depression when I was 18 - what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Other stuff I have done is cross Mongolia on horseback (and camel, and when the wind was right, kite skiing) in mid winter. Temperatures got down to minus fifty. Cold. We stayed with the nomads along the way. There is a story about this adventure in Australian Geographic.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a yachting instructor (RYA Cruising Instructor), a ski instructor (CSIA Level 2) and teach photography on Antarctic expeditions. I shoot and cut my own video footage of expeditions using Nikon, GoPro and Premier Pro. Am happy to share any of the things I have learnt along the way!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can make killer portraits very quickly.
