Overview
About Me
An English Language Teacher based in Barcelona, and avid collector of inspiration. My travelling ambitions took a bit of a back seat whilst I attempted to pursue the dream of sitting in an office and gaining weight. Having succeeded in the latter and loathing the former I changed direction and headed to Barcelona, and never regretted it. I've been fortunate enough to meet some fantastic people on my journeys, and look forward to being introduced to many more. I've spent time on every continent but one, and found inspiration from the places, beers, and people I surrounded myself with throughout.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Couchsurfing seems to me to be the most genuine form of travel, and the most straightforward and direct way to discover the places and people that attract you to a destination in the first place.
Interests
I'm not ashamed to say this, but Cricket. It's an amazing sport, seriously. Any game which can last for 5 days and end in a draw, and which has designated lunch and tea intervals cannot be bad, right? Other than that: the great outdoors, running, reading adventurous stories from survivalists and explorers, shamelessly offering opinions on football (or indeed any sport), and meeting up with new people and old friends over a pint.

Music, Movies, and Books
Authors I'm enjoying right now: Al Humphreys, Ed Stafford, Rob Lilwall, Kilian Jornet, Dave Gill, and slowly making my way through Wade Davies' mountaineering epic "Into the Silence".
Music: I've always found this difficult to define, but anything acoustic / Ben Howard-esque gets my vote. Tallest Man on Earth, Bear's Den, Alt-J, Bon Iver, James Bay, George Ezra......but willing to give anything a listen.
Movies: Watching Jurassic World recently made me feel like a 6 year old all over again, and I never stopped smiling throughout. Other than fantastical dinosaur movies - I can enjoy almost any movie put in front of me.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The Mongol Rally 2012 was probably my biggest expedition to date - both logistically and emotionally. It was extreme in all aspects, and I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. Happy to explain more, but it's always more interesting in the surroundings of a local pub.
Teach, Learn, Share
You can be given out Leg Before Wicket (L.B.W.) even if the ball hits the batsman's pad outside the line of off-stump, if the umpire deems the batsman not to have played a genuine stroke.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Beyond the tedious laws of cricket, if anyone is interested in the form and function of the second conditional in the English language I can probably offer help there? Other than that, I'll buy the first pint.
