About Me
The Past
I grew up in Mound, Minnesota, a small town on one of the state’s most popular bodies of water, Lake Minnetonka. I am the son of a commercial painter and controller who passed on "Minnesota Nice" vales. I played ice hockey and tennis for my high school. Outside of sports, I loved to boat, play guitar, and jam on the djembe.
I spent my first semester of college at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, my second at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and third through final semesters at the University of San Diego where I studied economics and real estate. My extracurricular activities included co-hosting a student radio show called One Love Radio and playing on the school’s roller hockey team.
My first job right out of college was titled Associate at a boutique real estate acquisition and management firm in Solana Beach, California. I spent the next four years learning the commercial real estate business. I parted ways with that business in June 2017 and put my career on a temporary hold to start the next chapter in my life. The universe cleared a path for me and I had the ability to respond.
The Present
I decided to embark on an backpacking adventure because it’s what my heart was nudging me to do. In my years of young adulthood, my passions and goals have been to travel and learn another language. This trip is about following my vision. I want to experience other places and cultures and communicate with locals in their native language, learning how other humans live their daily lives.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I will be traveling through Mexico, Central America and South America for the next year starting September 2017. I have no set course. I will be allowing the adventure to unfold as it should. The path towards Chile shall be created with the help of those I meet along the way and the guidance that reveals itself to me.
My intentions are to be a veracious learner in Spanish communication and be a man who pursues a life a virtue by living with integrity, simplicity and grace, leaving the earth better than he found it, is of service to those in need, and offers his love and kindness to the world. I will get out and experience as much as possible and share it with others.
