About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Never give up. Never surrender.
ABOUT ME
I'm a 19 year old guy from Christchurch taking a couple of months off after uni before I head over the ditch to work for Google Sydney. I lived in Sydney for three months over the summer when I interned for Google, which was awesome!
I'm pretty nerdy, I guess. Used to be big into competitive programming (represented NZ internationally and was a coach for the team after that). I'm not a recluse, though! I enjoy getting out there, partying, and meeting people. I'm hoping to experience some of the nightlife in Europe, something which is lacking a bit in Christchurch :)
PHILOSOPHY
It's hard to nail down a personal philosophy. "Live life to the fullest" is nice, but it's a bit cliched.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'd love to host people in the future, once I get my own place later this year. I'm really hoping to learn from some great hosts and get some tips!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I'm pretty new to Couchsurfing, so I hope to update this section as I travel and meet interesting people :)
My family has hosted HelpXers, which is how I found out about Couchsurfing. I really enjoyed interacting with our visitors, and I'd like to experience that sort of cultural exchange again.
Interests
At the moment, I'm super into the board game go/baduk. If you also play, I'd love to have a game with you!
I dabble in music-ish things, and play the piano (mostly classical).
A while back, I picked up a bit of Lojban: http://www.lojban.org/. I'm super rusty now, but would be keen to try it out in person!
Other interests: tramping, table tennis, pool, soccer (I'm abysmal, but it's fun and exercise), linguistics, electronics.

Music, Movies, and Books
Lots of classical music: Shostakovich, Bach, Beethoven...
I'm a big fan of people mumbling over electronic beats: Portishead, Bjork, Radiohead...
Electronic stuff without the mumbling is OK too: Boards of Canada, The Field, Brian Eno...
I have terrible memory of movies that I've seen! Had to look at my IMDB "recently viewed" page: I've recently enjoyed Perks of Being a Wallflower, Ruby Sparks, and Submarine. I enjoy movies with "misfits" and weird characters.
I like a lot of fantasy. Currently, I'm plowing through the Dresden Files. They're super pulpy/cheesy, but they sure suck you in.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Tchaikovsky performed at the Sydney Opera House with Vladimir Ashkenazy conducting was pretty awesome.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach basic piano (I'm self taught, so my technique is horrible, but it's still fun!)
I'd love to teach you how to play Go. It's a board game which is not well known in the West, but has super interesting strategy and emergent properties.
