About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Scouring the world for laughter, love, and lightheartedness!

ABOUT ME

Laugh, love, and travel. I am quite adventurous and love meeting new people and trying fun things! I dive every chance I get, have lived in a straw hut in the middle of nowhere for two years while helping remote villagers in Fiji, and been a full time nanny for a few years. My most recent experiences have found me dragging 10 people into the blue waters of the Ningaloo Reef to snorkel with whale sharks, tour guide to swim with Australian Sea Lions, as well as a deckie for cage diving with great whites. I love traveling, kids, photography, SCUBA diving, scrapbooking, 4-wheeling, boating, and my new favorite: sharking! If I do not consistently have something to do, or look forward to, I get antsy and start new projects or take off to somewhere new. I hope to someday find my perfect place to settle, but until then, I want to see the world and learn about the fascinating cultures, food, and wildlife around every corner!

PHILOSOPHY

Do what makes you happy. Try everything once. Check out my blog at http://www.jamiespeacemission.blogspot.com

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

So far I've hosted a couple of girls from Germany, a couple from Bristol, as well as a few French boys. I now live in Brisbane with my partner and we have a four bedroom house with three bedrooms to spare.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have been on couch surfing for a couple of years, but I have only couch surfed myself once and I loved the experience down in Freo! I would really like to meet new people while traveling the rest of OZ and on to New Zealand!

Interests

Photography, Beach, Snorkeling, SCUBA, Researching, Learning, Exploring, Hiking, 4-wheeling, Mudding, White-water rafting, Scrapbooking, almost anything outdoors. My working holiday visa has found me enjoying my hobbies as work: swimming with whale sharks: I actually lucked out and got to be a tour guide "spotter" for this past whale shark season in Exmouth. I was also a deckie and tour guide to swim with sea lions and cage dive with great whites in Port Lincoln. I would love to learn to kite surf, have kids (eventually), and find my perfect career.

Music, Movies, and Books

Game of Thrones, Heroes, Sweet Home Alabama, Ever After, 8 Seconds, Top Gun, Avatar and my favorite books - Water for Elephants, Hunger Games. Music - alternative, country, rock, oldies, classic rock, earth tones, indie, almost everything. I haven't updated this in forever!!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Oh my goodness, I have been so blessed! My most favorite moments include: whale shark spotter for a season in Exmouth, dove with 16-foot manta rays, walked on an active volcano, swam with wild bottlenose dolphins, dove with a sea turtle the size of a double bed in Belize, snorkeled with Australian sea lions, jumped off 50 foot waterfalls in Fiji, worked on a great white shark cage diving boat, snorkeled with tiger sharks on the Ningaloo Reef, hmmmm.... it goes on and on.

Teach, Learn, Share

Because I live in Fiji for two years I have lots of Fijian culture to share with visitors. Did you know just a little over 100 years ago they were avid cannibals? Currently, Christianity plays an important role in their lives and women must wear a "sulu" (piece of fabric, literally) around their waist much like a skirt. Currently the government is run by the military and drinking grog is a favorite past time. I would love to learn new dishes, customs, languages, etc. of travelers during my travels.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A bed, a couch, or a swag. Own bed and bath. Dependent upon my work and my partners availability to help entertain and pick up/drop off peeps.

Countries I’ve Visited

Bahamas, Belize, Cambodia, Ireland, Japan, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Thailand, United States, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In
