About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Approach the quarter-century milestone of my life with grace and love; and just have a great time while I'm at it!

I'm a 24 year old German-Singaporean living in this bustling forest of steel and glass that is Singapore. This summer of 2018 will mark the first time I have been back to my hometown in Germany in well over 7-8 years - from mandatory National Service in Singapore, to a minor stint of odd jobs, to college, life didn't let up for awhile - but now it's finally time!

I'm on a one way ticket to Europe in the hopes of finding genuine connection - with friends new and old, and of course with myself and finding out more about what make me tick. Travelling not to escape life, but rather so that it won't escape me.

I'd be up to try almost anything at least once - there's nothing that spells adventure more like a mix of spontaneity and uncertainty!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm not really opposed to the tourist sites and the typical must see checkpoints and sure I've got to get my pictures as much as the next guy, but I'm more interested in feeling the pulse of a city and experiencing life as a local. To meet and discover people and places I would normally never be able to experience elsewhere, and to listen to their stories. This is something that I've never quite managed to capture, traveling with friends or family and staying in hotels and planning itineraries and relying on guidebooks. That's why Couchsurfing sounds incredible! And it's all new, and terribly exciting, and slightly terrifying to me - but that's what makes it worth doing.

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC
Recently I've been in a smooth phase of electric soul, R&B, folk pop, and a bit of psychedelia thrown in there, artists like: Moses Sumney, The Lagoons, Daniel Caesar, Miguel, Frank Ocean, Nick Hakim, Sufjan Stevens, Lianne La Havas
But I like me some "lonely mountain man" music as my friends like to call it, artists like:
Bon Iver, Damien Rice, Ben Howard, Lisa Hannigan, Novo Amor, Iron & Wine, Gregory Alan Isakov, Glen Hansard
Atmospheric stuff like music by:
Explosions In The Sky, Ólafur Arnalds, Sigur Rós
And a healthy mix of reggae and beach vibes like:
Sticky Fingers, Rebelution, Stick Figure, The Lonely Biscuits, Young the Giant, Mac DeMarco

I'm into all types of music really and my tastes and fancies can change on a whim, really my all-time favourite music are the ones I have yet to discover - be it online or in the streets or in low-key concert.

I enjoy making music myself - though I've never really studied it, there's something fun about making it instinctively and mucking around with sounds in the comfort of your bedroom. Sometimes I post some "Bedroom Musician" clips on my Instagram - you can check it out if you'd like @jamil.s.schulze

MOVIES
You'd think as an actor I should have a more solid grasp of movies that I like - but really it's quite the opposite! I can't decide and I've always managed to find something about any movie that I watch to love somehow. I enjoy the experience of sitting in a cold, dark movie theatre bundled up in my jacket, munching on popcorn.

BOOKS
I'm enjoying a lot of stuff written by Haruki Murakami, Mitch Albom, Neil Gaiman, Gabriel García Márquez, Milan Kundera, and George Orwell.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love to learn anything you have to offer, your language, or some musical instrument, or some craft or DIY skill, a dance, a martial art - anything! I'd love to hear about your city and way of life, your experiences, and share some of mine.
