About Me

Hi there!

I'm a journalism student who loves to discover new things, places and people.

I'm currently in exchange in France and I'd love to travel to many countries in Europe, so that I can get to know different cultures from a local point of view. Because Brazil has such a continental dimension, I think exploring Europe will be a little like traveling to many Brazilian states, where one can sense closely how each part of Europe makes it what it is.

Since I started studying journalism, I have a better perception of how important media representation is to determine how we see each other. So as I show you that brazilians aren't only samba, party and "the Brazilian way" (jeitinho brasileiro), maybe you can show me how deep and beautiful your culture is :) and as importantly: let's have fun (and lots of caipirinha haha)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet new people who can show me their cultures and the interesting corners of their cities :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have a big scar in my leg. Many people look at it and try to hide how disgusting they find it, but everytime I see it I can only think of how many lessons it has teached me.

I've been bitten by a dog while I was doing my job making a story about people fighting poverty in Brazil's capital Brasília. When I arrived at the camp for my second visit, right before I could even talk to anyone, two wild dogs came and attacked me. I ran away so they would stop, and hopefully they did. As I entered my car to drive back to the city, all I could think about was how to make sure I wouldn't get ill. And for months I went to the hospital to take vaccines and other stuff. Everyone was worried about my physical and emotional health and I've had the best support of my family and friends.

But now that the wound has safely turned to a scar, I can stop for a moment and think about how much the episode changed me and how little my job helped those people to get better life conditions. Those families still struggle to get food. They're still threatened by the cold and tropical diseases. They still suffer to have human rights, government attention and even dignity.

Maybe this all happened for me to realize how much can we learn from other people and to remember how sensible it is not to super estimate our contribution to those who cross our paths. And, also, for me to never stop feeling grateful for all I the opportunities I have.
