About Me

Hi. My name is Jan but you can call me Rin. I travel, in the outer and inner world. I would like to understand the world and people. Currently, I have taken a gap year from the university, suspending my studies in psychology to look around the world a bit and look for myself. See other lands and meet people who see the world with different eyes than me. A bit different, or more. Spirituality is an important part of my life and I am passionate about religions, so this is a topic I would gladly share. I meditate a lot and are often accompanied by the smell of incense and the sounds of music. With the music I have become bolder and bolder with playing recently. I like to dance, have adventures and cook good veggy food, the last one I am especially happy to share.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to see and experience the world. And while I've got a deep appreciation for nature, I like to see museums, old buildings and galleries... the people are it's core. The heart of traveling and feeling different cultures and realms. Even those things I just named are more enjoyable when you do this together.

While traveling I want to meet people and have more local experience visiting foraign places. There are tourist attractions I enjoy a lot. There are also things, sometimes even more interesting for me like cooking together local food or eating in a local restaurant. Talking about the experience of living somewhere, about adventures or life lessons. Maybe going somewhere no internet guide will take me. Of course there is also the fact that I'm a budget traveller with a student's pouch. :')

That was the hard perspective. Less concrete, soft one is that I really like people. And I deeply believe it's by meeting people, immersing in local life, sharing experiences and stories you learn about the world. Surely more than by watching museum's displays or reading books. I've got thoughts and perspectives to share, stories to tell, And I'd gladly hear yours.

Music, Movies, and Books

Huge variety. Folk from around the world with mongolian throat singing, european flutes and drums, india's sitar and american shamanic songs with guitar. Electronics with dubs, ambients, downtempo, sometimes techno. Psytrance parties are close to my heart though the music is sometimes too fast :') I appreciate good rock, with indie and atmospheric streams mainly. There are many soundtracks from movies I enjoy though I wouldn't say that I listen to movie music in general. I tune with some reggae or rap tunes.

(The Beatles; Of Monsters and Man; Glass Animals; Maneesh the Moor; Huun-Huur-Tu; Curawaka; Daemonia Nymphe; Lao-Che; Tides from Nebula; The Sidh; The XX; Alcest; Faun; Mose; Shpongle; Bob Marley; Hanz Zimmmmer)

I play games, watch movies, read books. I like good stories that triggers emotions and make me think. About movies recently I watch mainly documentaries. Sometimes heard of animals chasing to survive in a prairie with hanszimmerlike music and smoothing voice of David Attenborrow is better than all epic battle scenes in the world. I watched many anime when I was younger but this period is probably over. For some of them I still think were masterpieces. There are some series that I enjoyed with excitement, both in animation and live version.

(Breaking Bad; Game of Thrones; Our Planet; Peaky Blinders; Vikings; Midnight Gospel ; Rick and Morty; Fullmetal Alchemist; Death Note; Jojo; Ghibli movies; Black Mirror; Dancing with wolves; Last Samurai; LOTR; Fight Club; MCU; Blade Runner 2049; Beautiful Mind; 7 years in Tibet; Intouchables; Godfather; Monty Python; Interview with the Vampire; The Shawshank Redemption; Wild wild country; Holy Mountain; Samsara; Baraka; Hair)

It's hard for me to read. I just do it very slowly and sometimes I can convince myself to do that, but most of the time I listen. Audiobooks are my saving because even if reading is hard, I love books. Mainly fantasy, not only though. I appreciate a lot good worldbuilding and belive that fantasy stories even if with magic, dragons or lazers tell us about real social mechanisms, people with real dilemmas, real problems.

(Dune; The Warded Man; Crime and Punishment; The Alchemist; Alan Watts; Dresden Files; Master and Margarita; The Witcher; Gaiman)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once I participated in LARP playing son of yarl in viking villige. Six hours wondering around wooden castle, dueling with mighty warriors for glory, participating in the feast eating with bare hands and drinking mead. At the end of adventure my sister figured out that our father killed our mother and when she told me that the witches ended the ceremony. In the gate of the castle flames appeared and a few women were singing ritual music. And the game has ended. That was intense!

Seriously, everybody should try to be a viking at least six hours in life. It's good for your heart!
