About Me
ABOUT ME
My name is Jan-Renier Moonen, I am a MD/PhD student from Groningen, the Netherlands, in the final years of both my MD and PhD studies.
My PhD is focussed on cardiovascular regenerative medicine especially the molecular signaling involved in (progenitor) cell plasticity and the regulation of mechanotransduction.
I have just returned from a clinical elective at the ‘Instituto do Coração’ the heart institute of the Universidade de São Paulo in Brazil. This was a great experience!
During my childhood I lived in Portugal for four years. I think this has played an important role in my international aspirations. During my MD studies I was part of the organizing committee of the 'International Student Congress of Medical Sciences (ISCOMS)' for three years, of which the last year as president of the board. The ISCOMS is one of the largest (bio)medical student conferences in the world with participants from over 45 countries. You can imagine how fantastic it is to be part of such an event!
This August I am enrolled in a clinical elective at the Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, US. Something I am greatly looking forward to!
