Overview
About Me
Hi!
My name is Jan and I'm a 22 year old physics student, living in the small but cosy city of Leuven.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
My first experience with couchsurfing dates from the fall of 2013, when I studied for one semester at the university of Aarhus in Denmark as an Eramus exchange student. It was an eye-opening experience: I was struck by the hospitality of the CS community and their willingness to introduce you to their way of life and culture. Meeting new people, visiting new places, learning about all kind of things, ... there's no better way to do these things at the same time than with CS!
Interests
I'm interested in a lot of things, such as: physics (obviously), general science, mathematics and philosophy. Besides that, I'm a big music fan (of all kinds of music) and I love playing the guitar. In my spare time (that is, after a long day of fiddling and playing with giant lasers and vacuum technology at the university) I like to go for a run in the park, watch animation movies (which are not exclusively for children!) or go for a drink with friends. I'm also a novice scuba diver, so during weekends you can often find me in the pretty cold waters of the Belgian quarries!

Music, Movies, and Books
Wow, that's not easy. I'll try anyway. Here goes:
Music: Asgeir, Ben Howard, The Tallest Man on Earth, Boy, Elliott Smith, Nick Drake, The Head and The Heart, Eefje De Visser, Milk Carton Kids, Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, Oasis, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, John Mayer, ....
Movies: animation movies! La Grande Bellezza, To Kill a Mockingbird, Grand Budapest Hotel, Boyhood, The Theory of Everything, The Imitation Game, ...
Books: I recently read 'To Kill a Mockingbird', which I really enjoyed. I don't have any specific favorite authors, but in general I like modern classics and non-fictional, science-related books.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Locking myself up in my room for a whole month, during summer (!), reading all of the George R. R. Martin books. Amazing, right?
Teach, Learn, Share
The following list is ordered with respect to the likelihood that people actually would want to learn something about it:
- How to play the guitar.
- How to play the piano (although I'm rather a beginner myself).
- How to dive (the club I'm a member of offers free trial classes, yay!).
- How to make 'Pasta-pesto', about the only dish I can cook. It's heavenly.
- How to code in Java, C++, Python, Matlab, HTML and JavaScript.
- How to solve reasonably difficult problems in physics and mathematics. Sweet.
