Über mich

Hey! My name is Jane. I'm 18 years old and I live in the Netherlands. Right now I'm having a gap year, and before school starts again in september, i'll visit the US for the first time.

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

I'll be in the US from May 21st till June 15th. The last two weeks i'll be making a road-trip through the west coast but during the first 1,5 week i'll stay with a friend of mine. He lives in Tempe, which (you probably know) is located in Phoenix, Arizona. Since I've always loved to meet new people, i thought couchsurfing during that first 1,5 week must be a great experience.

Interessen

I always like to hangout with friends. Having good talks or small debates about topics of our own interest. I like to think, read and watch (short)movies about Philosophy. One of the philosophers i find most interesting these day is Alan Watts. I often cook and I like to try new recipes as well.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

I actually listen to music from almost every genre. I love music a lot. I got a bit of a preference for Hip-hop and house/techno.
I really like the movie 'silence of the lambs'.
I like books that are exciting or books with a deeper philosophical view.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Having lunch with 2 strangers I met in the train: I was sitting in a full train when at the second to last train stop 2 elderly people walked in. They we're both in their late sixties, so i offered them my seat. After that we got into a really nice convo. Then the three of us had to get out when the train arrived at it's final destination. We were all sad that the conversation had to come to an end, and so they invited me to have some lunch with them. I agreed. We had the lunch and it was a lot of fun.

This might not seem that amazing or special, but like I said: I really like to meet new people. And interacting with strangers in such a friendly way really boosts my mood.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

Isn't man an amazing animal? He kills wildlife - birds, kangaroo’s, deer, all kinds of cats, coyotes, beavers, groundhogs, mice, foxes and dingoes by the million in order to protect his domestic animals and their feed. Then he kills domestic animals by the billion and eats them. This in turn kills man by the million because eating all those animals leads to degenerative - and fatal - health conditions like heart disease, kidney disease and cancer. So then man tortures and kills millions more animals to look for cures for these diseases. Elsewhere millions of other human beings are being killed by hunger and malnutrition because food they could eat is being used to fatten domestic animals. Meanwhile, some people are dying of sad laughter at the absurdity of man, who kills so easily and so violently, and once a year, sends out card praying for “Peace on Earth” - from Old MacDonald’s Factory Farm by David Coats.
