About Me

CURRENT MISSION

"To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all." Well, I want to live

ABOUT ME

I'm Jane, I work as a volunteer coordinator in a permaculture educational project in Belgium and I'm also an organic farmer/gardener working for a restaurant close to Brugge.
The outdoors has always attracted me, I'm crazy about bushcraft, hiking, climbing,... and I'm so happy to be doing jobs that are actually my passion.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had a lot of experiences the past years with all kinds of different people! Including not only the ones I hosted, but also the couchsurfers that stayed with friends of mine. Our group of friends help each other out to make sure the couchsurfers have an unforgettable time here in Bruges:) It was all very exciting and I only have good memories.

Surfers: I don't have a fixed place to stay at the moment, travelling from one place in Belgium to another. But if you're interested in volunteering in a beautiful food forest with awesome people here in Belgium, take a look here: https://www.facebook.com/voedselbos/ and contact me ;) We live self sufficient every season, work in the garden and build amazing roundhouses.

Interests

Since I studied tourism it may be a bit superfluous to say I love travelling. I just came home from some nice wwoofing experiences in Wales, England, Thailand & Sumatra. Now I'm saving up for my van so I can roam through Europe by the end of next year.
I have many passions, of which music might be the one I'm most devoted to. I play a bit of guitar and double bass but mainly I love delving into all kinds of weird music.
After I studied archaeology and tourism, I started following different courses about herbalism, foraging, permaculture and organic farming.

Meanwhile, I try to read as much as I can, learning stuff is just such a treat :)

Above all, I love nature most. Living outside, in every season. Working, playing, discovering in the great outdoors. There is a pleasure in the pathless woods..

Music, Movies, and Books

Authors that inspire me are: Oscar Wilde, E.A. Poe, Bill Mollison en David Holmgren, Alain de Botton, Paulo Coelho, J.R.R. Tolkien, Robin Hobb, Henry David Thoreau, Joanna Macy, Herman Hesse, Sara Maitland, Masanobu Fukuoka and many more..

Along the very interesting musical road, I encountered some amazing artists and bands. I can't say I have a favorite genre, I listen to the strangest things, from stoner/doom to ethio-jazz, folk to jungle blues.
To give you an idea: Dans Dans, Django Reinhardt, Jimi Hendrix, Son House, Porcupine Tree, Gorillaz, Amenra, Led Zeppelin, Mogwai, Cream, Eddie Vedder, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, All Them Witches, Gustavo Santaolalla, Ali & Vieux Farka Toure, John Butler Trio, Dead Meadow, White Stripes, Samsara Blues Experiment, Tracy Chapman, Kadavar, Pink Floyd, The Alan Parsons Project, Rory Gallagher, Modest Mouse, Radio Moscow, Nick Cave, Dirty Three, Dead Brothers, Other Lives, Her Name Is Calla, Fever Ray, Loreena McKennitt, Patrick Watson, Mulatu Astatke, Black Flower, CW Stoneking, Godspeed you!
