About Me
I am a soon to be corporate lawyer (but I swear, I have a soul!!!), which is why I'm so keen on traveling the world while I have the free time. I'm a very social person who is incredibly chatty, but at times, I like to set aside some alone time to both wander physically around and mentally.
I'd love to meet new people with an open mind over drinks (tea/coffee or alcohol), while strolling around outdoors, or over food (whether cooking or at a restaurant).
My goal this year is to travel as much as possible. In the past year, I traveled to the following places: Israel, Southwest USA (for some winter hiking), Sweden, Iceland, Italy. Will be traveling this year to Japan, China/Tibet, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Nepal.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love everyone in my life, but I actually prefer traveling alone. I think that it gives me a wonderful opportunity to explore and learn about a new place and culture.
In the past, I would go to hostels to meet people. I am lucky to have met people from all over the world, but I realized that it wasn't necessarily the best way to really get to know the city I'm visiting. For this reason, I'm hoping to meet people who actually live in and know the city so I can get a better sense of where I am.
I'm looking to have great conversations with my host(s) and to learn a little bit more about their global and philosophical opinions; in doing so, I'm excited to gain a new perspective on life and the world around me as well as find common interests!
Just to be clear, I'm not here for free accommodation. Hostels are sufficiently cheap and I tend to be resourceful with money. My bigger goal is to meet and socialize with new friends who, through conversations and exploration, will give me a better perspective and understanding of the place I'm visiting. I plan on reaching out to people I think I might get along with - please do the same for me :)
Interests
I live in a city but my favorite thing is bicycling on a beautiful day along the river. I'll sometimes stop along the bike path and spend hours sitting in the grass, maybe even reading a book too heavy to hold with one hand.
On a colder or rainier day, you will probably find me at an indoor climbing/bouldering gym or maybe even inside a bar enjoying a delicious beer. Maybe I'll even venture out and dance (read, look like a silly person) to some fun girl pop or garage punk. Otherwise, I'm probably embarking on a mission to explore the many museums of NYC. When I'm feeling less adventurous, I like staying home and cooking delicious foods or snuggling up on my couch and reading for hours.
Music, Movies, and Books
Music: The Ramones, The Gories, Sonic Youth, Nobunny, Shonen Knife, Jazz (John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Duke Ellington)
Books: Infinite Jest, Wind-up Bird Chronicles, 2666, White Noise
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I once managed to travel from Iceland to USA without a passport or luggage. I like to think this reflects on my personality (that I am extroverted and am trustworthy) but more likely it's because people in Iceland are incredibly nice.
If the above doesn't count, then I adopted a cat I fostered - an amazing black cat named Momo.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm not sure what this box is for... maybe this would be better for a real, in-person conversation. I'm a law student, but I've also taught in low-income neighborhoods as well as studied economics/literature/philosophy so hopefully there's something I can say that is interesting or worth sharing!
What I Can Share with Hosts
Things I hope I can share: good company, engaging conversations, positive attitude, and a constant smile on my face.
I believe that hospitality is important and so I hope to share a gift upon arrival.
