About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To know more people. Oh, and to move from Georgia to Vermont.
ABOUT ME
My partner and I are moving to Burlington in July '09 so that I can begin the Master's of Social Work program at UVM. I'm interested in feminist social work, and in particular, using narrative therapies to work with older women situated in difficult socioeconomic circumstances. My intellectual interests are multi- and interdisciplinary. I love the integration of ideas, philosophies, modes of creation. I enjoy writing and plan to use storytelling, poetry writing, and bibliotherapy (reading therapy) in my practice.
Most of all, I love being around open-hearted/minded people. I enjoy having a few drinks and eating well, but I still prefer a park to a club, and a back porch to a bar. My idea of a really fun Friday night is going out to dinner, taking a long walk, getting a few bottles of wine, and going back home with some friends to have arts-n-crafts night.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Though I've been a member for a while, I have not yet hosted anyone. I haven't been hosted either. I'm hoping to find some fun and friendly people in Burlington who can host me and my partner, Brian, when we come up to visit in May. It will be our first trip to the town.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
None, yet. I hope to have a good place for hosting visitors when we move to Burlington, but right now, my apartment isn't exactly conducive to overnight company.
I can't wait to be a CS visitor, though! I'm a terrible cook, but my partner is fantastic. We would love to help make meals, buy dinner and drinks, etc. Neither of us spend much time in bars or clubs, so I don't foresee any late night drunken stumbling into bed ;)
Interests
I thrive on crazy conversations, and don't place limits on what can or should be said. I think each person--no matter how boring s/he thinks her/his life is--opens up a realm of possibilities for new understanding of, and engagement with, the world. I love talking philosophy, American and Cultural Studies, books, writing, film. Anything that can be deconstructed (and isn't that everything?)
Since I live in a commuter city, I haven't been able to get involved in biking the way I have wanted to. I'm so excited about that part of moving to VT. I do a lot of hiking and camping in the southeast, and love a (casual) pick-up game of basketball. In GA, we get about a cm of snow every year, so I can't wait for the opportunity to ski more.
I'm absolutely dead-set on spending weekends in Montreal & Quebec trying to expand my very paltry grasp of French.
Other interests: post-modern philosophy, jewelry-making, painting (terrible at it), my dogs, papercutting collages, playing outside all day with lots of sunscreen on, poetry
What I despise: clothes shopping, ticks, whiskey, wearing high heels, olives, Girls Gone Wild
What I don't despise, but also don't seek out: eating beef and pork, miniskirts, cleaning house, Seth Rogen films, religious fanatics
