About Me

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm hoping it will give me a new perspective in my travels, and bring me closer to different cultures.

Although I cannot host at the moment as I live in Halls of Residence, I will offer a bed in Southampton as soon as my friend and I get a flat for next term (fall 2015). It's a lovely city in the south of England, with the Isle of Wight next door and London two hours away. I'll also do my best to find anyone a couch in Norway, although my home there is a bit off the beaten track.

Music, Movies, and Books

Having a large family of diverse tastes I've grown up with a father playing AC/DC, a mom listening to Norwegian folk, brothers blasting indie and rap, and a sister introducing me to K-pop. Im happy as long as I can dance or daydream to it.

I love films that make me cry (in a good way), like Pay it Forward or The Book Thief. I also have a weak spot for all things fantasy. LOTR, Narnia or Harry Potter are all a part of my childhood, both as books and films. Other than that, I'll watch any film that's reccomended to me. Netflix is what gets me through exams!

For books, there are too many to mention. I love to read, and will never travel without at least one book in my bag. Many of my favourite films are also great books, but apart from these I love The Wheel of Time series, The Little Prince, Mengele Zoo and Signs of Love. At the moment I am reading Anna Karenina, but I have to admit that it's taking me a while.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent my gap year teaching at the local primary school, and I think I learnt more than the children. As a substitute teacher I had to jump into a lot of different and quickly changing situations, with so many different and exciting challenges. Working alongside the teachers that I grew up learning from gave me an interesting and new perspective, whilst being looked up to as an authority figure forced me to grow and take responsibility in ways I never had to before. Most of all, it was a year of immeasurable fun, sharpened by the moments of worry or love that you feel the strongest when children are involved.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'll gladly teach anything I know, from business strategy to art or Norwegian culture. I'm fond of cooking with friends, though the only Norwegian recipes I know require somewhat unique ingredients. I'm the sort of person that figures things out as I go, so I'll improvise a dish as often as follow a recipe, but I'd love to learn some of your tricks and see if anything interesting comes out of it. If it ends badly there is always the option of takeout.

From what I've seen on CS, I could learn something from any of you. Even if you just point me in a good direction from the front door I'll be happy.

I also have a dream of starting my own business, so if you have any expertise or advice within this (or if you're willing to listen to my ideas), I'd be thrilled.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share an exitement for travel, culture, and people. We can share meals and conversations, and hopefully some laughter.
I've studied art for three years, and I know my way around video/photo editing. If there is anything I can help with, just ask.
If you prefer to be left alone, I will be perfectly happy to explore on my own and move quietly to and from your couch.
